Animal Safari – I Wrote to the Zoo

21st April 2023A Barnes

This week in Rowans class we have been reading and sequencing the story of Dear Zoo. In phonics and maths we have completed lots of tasks. In science our topic is animals and we had to identify and sort farmyard animals. In art we identified animals and the colours needed to create animal prints using foam rollers.

This Week in Maples!

21st April 2023S Wilkinson

The children in Maples have had a very busy first week back. In Phonics the children have been learning new sounds and trying hard to read and write words, phrases and sentences using their new knowledge. In Maths we have been using concrete and pictorial representations to add and subtract numbers as well as practicing our counting skills. We have began our history topic by looking at the terms past and present and sorting pictures accordingly and in Science the children have been ordering the stages of human growth.

Take a look at some of the hard work the children have been completing!

World Maths Day

26th March 2023Mrs Storey

Blossoms had a fantastic time celebrating World Maths Day.  We linked Maths with English by solving Maths puzzles involving Roald Dahl characters and then we created some of our own.  In Maths, we budgeted the price of different items by working out which chores we’d need to do for a specific cost to be able to buy the items.  This is an excellent real life skill.  Finally, we completed some Art through Maths by using our measuring skills to create Celtic knots and Curves of Pursuit.  Excellent enthusiasm and resilience from all of Blossoms.  Well done!

World Maths Day in Chetsnuts

26th March 2023G Mills

On Thursday, Chestnuts celebrated World Maths Day.

In English, we solved measurement questions about George’s Marvellous Medicine related to our work on Roald Dahl.

In maths, we improved our money skills by solving riddles. This helped us to find totals and give change.

During art, we created curves of pursuit patterns.

Some of our excellent work is shown below.

World Maths Day in Pines

26th March 2023L Calder

We started the day for World Maths Day by going to the sensory room and playing maths games on the interactive activity mat, we threw the musical dice and counted the numbers and enjoyed looking through sensory shapes.

In English we counted characters from the Supertato stories and at  snack time we enjoyed paying for our snack at the ‘Pines Shop’. Everyone did an excellent job selecting the correct coin and practising handing over money to the ‘shop keeper’.

In our art lesson we created a heart picture copying the style of artist Piet Mondrian using lines to make squares and rectangles to colour in using primary colours.

We all really enjoyed using maths in all of our lessons for World Maths Day!

World Maths Day in Hollies

26th March 2023A Hutchinson

To celebrate World Maths Day in Hollies we turned snack time into a shop. The children all chose a snack and then counted out the correct amount of coins. We also created a Mondrian style art piece with Acorns.

World Maths Day in Acorns

23rd March 2023A Malone

Today we did lots of activities for World Maths Day. In English we looked at some counting and number stories, then made our own number books.

In Maths, we explored money and set up a class shop, writing our own price tags and then buying things with real money.

In Art we found out about the artist Paul Klee, who created abstract art using colour and shape. We then made our own ‘Castle and Sun’ art work.

We also played the game ‘Toyshop Money’ on TopMarks Maths on the iPads. We had a great day and really enjoyed linking maths to all areas of the curriculum.

World Maths Day

23rd March 2023A Tod

On Thursday 23rd March, Willows celebrated World Maths Day… even the date read the same backwards as it did forwards (23.03.23)!

In English we used one of Roald Dahl’s famous stories, Esio Trot, to base our tasks upon. The children worked hard to estimate the amount of tortoises Mr. Hoppy had and then used that number in many different ways. For example, they had to represent the number pictorially, partition it and then write a maths problem using it.

In maths, they brushed up on their money skills using ‘Topmarks toy shop game’ and then went on to calculate people’s orders at The Beach Cafe.

To explore maths in art, the children created some wonderful symmetrical insect drawings.
