This week in Willows, we have been learning and talking about Internet Safety Week. We wrote down words relating to online safety and then worked as a class to create a poem about ‘Keeping Safe Online’. We performed our poem to everyone in our whole school assembly.
This week, as part of our DT topic “Cook Well Eat Well” we made ratatouille. Willows and Cherries love working with each other!
The children continued to develop their safe cutting and cooking skills. They followed a recipe and then wrote their own ordered steps.
When it was cooked, the children tasted the ratatouille and thought it was delicious – even Mr Mills was impressed!

In October, Year 4, 5 and Year 6 who were not attending the Kingswood residential had the opportunity to visit Simonside Climbing Wall as part of our PE curriculum. The children participated in two activities; archery and rock climbing. Their behaviour was impeccable and it was amazing to watch their confidence grow as they overcame fears and climbed the wall. The children also thoroughly enjoyed the archery and it was lovely to see fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship. Great work everyone!
This week Willows and Cherries have been working together to explore watercolours. We freely explored the properties of watercolours. We shared our findings and challenges we faced.
This week in our history lesson, we explored the meaning of the historical terms era, century, millennia, BC, AD, BCE and ace. The children worked together to sequence the prehistory timeline. Once completed we answered questions such as ‘What are the names of the different periods of prehistory?’ and ‘For how many centuries did the Bronze Age last?’

Today we used watercolour paints to mix colours by freely exploring the properties of watercolours. We compared findings, shared tips with each other and created some amazing colours.

Willows had a brilliant morning at sports day. They all put in a fantastic effort and gained lots of winners stickers!
They took part in running races, egg and spoon, sack race and a football slalom just to name a few.
Have a look at them in action…
As part of Fieldwork Fortnight, Willows carried out some work around the school grounds using compass points.
They explored the 8 points of a compass and drew versions of their own using chalk. Next, they used compasses to find out the answers to some questions involving compass directions.
Willows and Cherries visited the Roman fort of Segedunum in Wallsend. All term they have been learning about the Romans, so it was the perfect visit to conclude their topic ‘Emperors and Empires’.
The children took part in a workshop where they were enrolled in the Roman army! They had to take the oath and practise for battle using their spears and shields.
They then took a rather rainy walk around the fort ruins to get a real feel for how the Romans would have lived and worked together.
Willows invited their adults in to share their learning about the Romans.
The children designed and made their own Roman shields…
… and mosaic tiles. Don’t their creations all look brilliant!
