Mental Health Champions
Mental Health Champions are your ‘go to’ person in school to talk to about how you are feeling or anything you are worried about.
Mental Health Champions are trusted adults who offer help confidentially. Anything you say to your Mental Health Champion won’t be passed on unless you or someone you know is being hurt or is likely to be hurt.
The Mental Health Champions at Fellgate Primary School are:
Mrs A. Hearn (Senior Mental Health Lead), Mr G. Mills (PSHE Lead), Ms H. Towers (Family Support Worker/Mental Health First Aider), Miss S. Wilkinson (Teacher), Miss S. Shakesby (TA). Our link governor is Mr G. Stobbs.
Healthy Minds Team
Fellgate has strong links with the NHS Healthy Minds team. Our designated education mental health practitioner is Lucy Tarn:
‘The Healthy Minds Team are a team of mental health professionals based in schools across South Tyneside. We have a member of our team based in every school, and we work with young people aged 4 – 18 years. The Health Minds Team work directly with young people who may need help with their mental health. Here are some examples of difficulties that we can support you with;
- Low mood
- Worry & anxiety
- Controlling anger
- Bereavement or Loss
- Self-esteem and confidence
- Impacts of covid
We can help by offering you support from our service or directing you to the most appropriate treatment. Many young people struggle with their mental health or stress levels at some point in their school career, however if you feel like you need some extra support we would be happy to help. We aim to help young people at the earliest possible stage, to encourage positive wellbeing, and help you to develop skills to reduce the risk of further distress. If you’re in need of help from the Healthy Minds Team you can ask your teacher or talk to your parent about accessing support.
Once we have received your referral from the school staff, we will arrange a ‘Getting to know you’ session with you and your parent (if you wish for them to be there). We will then look at different options which may suit you and your family best. You may get help in school if appropriate and we would work together to give you the strategies to feel like yourself again’.
