Chestnuts thoroughly enjoyed meeting the staff from the Fans Museum and exploring all the amazing football memorabilia including a variety of signed shirts and gloves, trophies and old footballs and rattles from the 1940’s. What an amazing opportunity!
In art this week we looked at portraits of past Monarchs. We discussed how the Monarchs may have posed and talked about objects we could see in their portraits such as crowns, swords and a sceptre. We then took photos of the children posing just like a Monarch of their choice.
Cherries had a fantastic day at Arbeia, the Roman Fort, in South Shields.
We have learned lots about the Romans and what went on at the fort over 1000 years ago. We loved digging for artefacts and deciding what each item would have been used for.
Everyone was so well behaved and made us all so proud of their listening and hard work.
Team Cherries
Hawthorns have ordered the monarchs of the past on a timeline. We noticed there were more in some time periods than others and suggested reasons why this might be.
Sycamores enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Great North Museum with Chestnuts to consolidate our Science learning from last half term. At the museum, we visited the planetarium, used the Ancient Greek activity packs as a pre-teaching task for Summer term, explored the different galleries and took part in a workshop all about the Moon. The children really impressed us with what they had remembered from their Earth and Space Science topic and could explain why we have night and day. Sycamores were absolutely amazing and were fantastic ambassadors for our school. We were extremely proud of them all.

This week the children in Maples have enjoyed an amazing Space Afternoon linked to our work on Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon. The children enjoyed retelling what happened to Neil Armstrong, created their own moons or asteroids using playdoh and racing rockets using balloons and string.
This week we have also enjoyed Children in Need. See how much fun we have had!
The children in Birches class have been learning about why we celebrate Remembrance Day. They worked independently to create some beautiful poppies using a variety of materials.
