This week in Science, Cherries have been carrying out an investigation as part of their “Rocks” topic. They have been testing to see how hard or soft rocks are. Also, if they are permeable, or buoyant.
This week in Science, Cherries carried out an experiment where we cleaned dirty 1p and 2p coins. We used a variety of household liquids, like brown sauce, mayonnaise, floor cleaner etc to clean the coins. We predicted which we thought would work best and then tested to reach a conclusion. We found anything containing vinegar cleaned the coins perfectly.

This week in Science, Cherries made a solar power oven. We then experimented with wrapping the oven in different materials to see if this had an impact on the temperature inside. We measured the temperature using a thermometer and found out that tin foil made the oven even hotter, when the sun shone down to increase the solar energy.
In our topic work this week we looked at animal skeletons and then created our own using art straws. Great work Acorns!
This week in science the children were naming and sorting animals into the different groups of mammal, bird, fish, reptile and amphibian.
Our new topic in Acorns is Animal Safari. In this topic we will be learning about all the incredible animals that live around the world. We will explore and compare animal habitats, and investigate animals in the local environment.
We will learn how to care for pets, and find out what all animals need to grow, survive and stay happy and healthy.
Our role play area is in the process of becoming a veterinary surgery –
We’ve explored online games about how to look after animals –
We made posters about taking care of pets –
We drew pictures of our favourite animals and labelled them –
We can’t wait to find out more and become animal experts!
