Over the last two weeks, Birches read the story of the Willow Pattern and used Willow Pattern designs to create their own plates. We used a range of different materials and methods – we think they look rather nice!
On Fridays, Birches class spend some time playing board games with each other to practice our turn taking and social skills. This week’s favourite was Twister!
This morning Birches listened to both the story and song version of The Lambton Worm. The children were particularly interested in the Geordie dialect! We then sequenced the story and added the correct verse from the song with a partner.
We really enjoyed the African drumming workshop this morning! We concentrated very hard to follow the rhythms and play the drums correctly. We even had a bit of a boogie!
This week Birches learned about why men signed up to the army at the beginning of World War One. We watched interviews with old soldiers and looked at posters that helped persuade men to join, then used 2Publish to create our own posters.
This week Birches created their own abstract art after looking at examples. We chose a pencil portrait and traced it, selecting certain lines to create an abstract effect. We’ve been quite impressed by the results!
We’ve completed a few different Easter activities this week in Birches but our favourite is always the Easter egg hunt! We were a bit worried as it was a bit rainy at the beginning of the day, but that soon cleared up and we were able to do our hunt outside. Everyone found an egg with some chocolate in and had a great time!
This afternoon some Birches parents were able to come to join us for a science workshop. We discussed lifecycles then all chose their own lifecycle and represented it in different ways. The boys and their parents did a great job and we had some really lovely work.
