In Birches this week we have explored ways to make bridges stronger. On Tuesday we folded paper in different ways and investigated how many coins each one would hold.
In Birches today we tested different materials to see which one was the most reflective. we had to make predictions first and explain our choices, then investigate to see if our prediction was correct.
On Tuesday Birches and Oaks went to The Word in South Shields to complete a Lego coding activity. We had to build a model then use code to make it move. We all enjoyed building the models and were really pleased when they moved! We also explored the Lego exhibition which we loved – but everyone agreed our favourite activity was our packed lunch!
Oaks and Birches visited the OpenZone at the Word this week to take part in a Lego coding activity.
We needed to build a range of different things before adding code to make them move or dance (see our video linked below). The children enjoyed experimenting with coding and adding more complex instructions, evaluating what went right…or wrong and made improvements.
Afterwards we visited the library and enjoyed the Lego exhibit currently on show.
Birches have been looking at different examples of Inuit art. This week we used ‘The Enchanted Owl’ by Kenojuak Ashevak to inspire our own owl prints.
