Trip Advisor Reviews and Formal Responses

28th March 2025S Graham

In Oaks this week we began by writing negative reviews of either a restaurant, theme park or activity centre. We wrote these in the style of reviews on websites such as Trip Advisor and thoroughly enjoyed bringing out our dark side!

We then changed roles in our following piece and wrote a formal response to our complaint in the role of the manager of the restaurant, theme park or activity centre. We really enjoyed exploring and using formal language. Some of the children used some truly outstanding word choices and we completely convincing in their roles.

Lexia Learning

14th July 2024A Malone

Each week we spend some time using Lexia, an online program which helps to develop reading and phonics skills. Everyone has an individual target number of minutes to complete, and we can work on this at home or at school.

I am super proud of how hard our Acorns work each week on EVERYTHING they do. They always give 100% and should all be proud of their achievements. Well done Acorns!

A busy week in Acorns!

6th May 2024A Malone

We have been learning so much and having lots of fun in Acorns!

Last week we had a visit from George the kitten, as we have been learning about taking care of pets.

In phonics we have been working hard at our reading and writing, in particular using tricky words.

In Maths, we have been learning about addition and subtraction. We explored this through songs, practical activities, online activities and in written form.

In English we read ‘Little Red and the Very Hungry Lion’. and created story maps to retell the story.

We used our new monkey bars to improve our strength, balance and co-ordination, and enjoyed working and playing together in our outdoor area.

Rhyming in Maples

26th April 2024S Wilkinson

This week the children have worked really hard to recognize words that rhyme. We read together silly rhyming stories that made the children giggle such as ‘Oi dog’ then we have completed interactive rhyming games, puzzles and worksheets. We also looked at Monarchs in history which they all found very interesting when placing them on a timeline.

Animal Facts

24th April 2024A Malone

This week in English we have been reading ‘Monkey Puzzle’ by Julia Donaldson. We then sorted animals into groups based on their features, e.g. whether they had fur, feathers or scales. We have also been researching animal diets, and grouping carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.

Here is some of the amazing writing we have produced –

Working Hard in Acorns!

22nd March 2024A Malone

This week in English we have been matching animals to their babies, drawing pictures and writing labels. In Maths we have explored one more and one less, and completed a number line challenge.

In our topic work we explored farms in the past, and also made observational drawings of our cress seeds.

We also had fun outdoors!

Handa’s Surprise

15th March 2024A Barnes

This week the children listened to the story of Handa’s Surprise. The children explored the fruit first through touch by using a mystery box where the children had to describe the fruits that they could feel. The children then explored the fruits through smell and taste. The children had to record whether they liked, did not like or did not try the fruits.

A Wonderful World Book Day in Rowans

8th March 2024A Barnes

The children in Rowans looked amazing in their costumes for World Book Day!! The children listened to the story of The Enormous Turnip, they then retold the story using colourful semantics and answered comprehension questions about the story. In the afternoon the children selected animals from books and created paper plate animals. The children finished the day sharing stories with the children from Acorns. A super duper day!!

World Book Day in Maples

8th March 2024S Wilkinson

The children in Maples had the best time on World book day, they came in dressed as their favorite characters such as Horrid Henry, stickman and Elsa from frozen. We had a lovely time visiting our friends in Chestnuts who read with us and told us some brilliant jokes from the children’s joke books. We ended the day with a trip to Hawthorns and a short story from Mrs. Kincaid.
