Winter Warmer Fun in Maples!

10th December 2024S Wilkinson

The children thoroughly enjoyed the Winter Warmer Session with Sandra from Tides of Change. The children learned how to make a spark using a flint and toasted marshmallows to make smores. In the words of one of the children, Sandra is a “total professional.” A fabulous morning!

Odd Socks Day and Anti-Bullying Week

22nd November 2024G Mills

On Tuesday, we started anti-bullying week with odd socks day. The whole school looked amazing wearing their odd socks to show how we are all different but we all still work well together.

The theme of this year’s anti-bullying week is “Choose Respect”. During our PSHE lessons, every class talked about how we could act towards each other to be respectful. All children completed work where they promised to choose respect by behaving in appropriate ways. There were some great ways to show respect, shown in the photographs below.

Children in Need

15th November 2024G Mills

We’ve had a great day in school raising money for Children in Need.

School Council organised a t-shirt competition where children designed and made their own Pudsey t-shirts. Each class had a winning design and the children won a Children in Need water bottle.

School Council also arranged a cake sale. We raised over £100, which has been donated to Children in Need.

Well done everyone and thank you for your generous efforts.

Fruit Art in Acorns

15th March 2024A Malone

This week we have been learning about healthy lifestyles, and exploring what we need to do to stay healthy and strong. We discussed exercise, a balanced diet, sleep, brushing our teeth and keeping ourselves clean. Everyone agreed to try a new fruit or vegetable this week, and we have almost completed that challenge!

We also looked at some art work by Giuseppe Arcimboldo, who created faces out of fruit. We looked closely at one of his paintings, and then painted our own still life baskets of fruit.

This week in Maples……

2nd February 2024S Wilkinson

This week in Maples we have enjoyed looking at different types of homes in PSHE and learning map symbols in geography. Our story this week was Goldilocks and the three bears and the children created some lovely sentences and character descriptions based on what they learnt from the book. On Friday the children loved making their own delicious snacks and showed some brilliant independent skills buttering their toast and bagels and even washing up! Well done Maples!

23rd November 2023G Mills

We have had a great day in Cherries for Children in Need.
The children took part in the “Break the Rules Day” by wearing jumpers backwards, bringing sweets for snack, wearing Pudsey ears and many other things.
This afternoon, we played in the soft play for Golden Time because we’ve had such a hardworking week.

23rd November 2023G Mills

On Friday 18th November, School Council arranged “Break the Rules Day” to raise money for Children in Need.

School Council established a list of rules which could be broken, designed a poster to be displayed around school and promoted the day across social media.

The whole school had lots of fun breaking the rules and we raised nearly £250, which was donated to Children in Need.

Here are some photographs showing the excitement around school…

Anti-Bullying Week

23rd November 2023G Mills

From 13th – 17th November, as part of our ongoing PSHE work, we recognised “Anti-Bullying Week”.
All classes across school have completed work around the theme of “Make a Noise” to encourage children to speak up if they feel they are being bullied or know someone else who is.
Many classes looked at the definition of bullying and talked in detail about how to be a good friend.

Here is a selection of photos showing work from the week…

Space Afternoon and Children in Need!

17th November 2023S Wilkinson

This week the children in Maples have enjoyed an amazing Space Afternoon linked to our work on Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon. The children enjoyed retelling what happened to Neil Armstrong, created their own moons or asteroids using playdoh and racing rockets using balloons and string.

This week we have also enjoyed Children in Need. See how much fun we have had!
