“Stone Age Boy” in Cherries

8th October 2023G Mills

Cherries are so proud of their amazing writing.
This week, we have been reading the book “Stone Age Boy” as part of our Stone Age topic.
We have produced some fantastic work: retelling the story and writing setting descriptions.

Look at how proud we are of our lovely writing.

Cherries Parent/Carer Visit

29th September 2023G Mills

This week, Cherries invited parents and carers into school to join us with our learning.

As part of our Stone Age topic, we built models of Stonehenge and we created handprints like people from thousands of years ago.

We also showed our parents / carers around our classroom and explained our learning.

History in Willows

20th September 2023Mrs Spencer

This week in our history lesson, we explored the meaning of the historical terms era, century, millennia, BC, AD, BCE and ace. The children worked together to sequence the prehistory timeline. Once completed we answered questions such as ‘What are the names of the different periods of prehistory?’ and ‘For how many centuries did the Bronze Age last?’

The Yellow Emperor and the Xia Dynasty

20th September 2023Mrs Storey

Sycamores began our new History topic by taking part in some drama.  We acted out the story of the Yellow Emperor and the Xia Dynasty; finding out information about it whilst remaining in role.  Did you know that the Yellow Emperor of the Xia Dynasty may not have even existed?  There may be truth in the stories but people often question parts such as the Yellow Emperor being taken to heaven by a dragon.  Great drama work around a historical idea Sycamores.

Another Great Week in Maples!

17th September 2023S Wilkinson

The children in Maples have worked so hard this week. In Phonics, the children have been learning new phonics sounds and consolidating their segmenting and blending skills. In Maths, each of the children have worked hard on their own individual targets, including counting, identifying more/less as well  greater than/less than and equals. In Geography we identified how the land and sea are represented on a world map and have coloured their own to demonstrate their understanding. In History, we identified and discussed who the significant people are for each of us and in art we enjoyed exploring and painting using primary colours.

Have a look at our amazing work!

Roman Fort Visit

19th July 2023A Tod

Willows and Cherries visited the Roman fort of Segedunum in Wallsend. All term they have been learning about the Romans, so it was the perfect visit to conclude their topic ‘Emperors and Empires’.

The children took part in a workshop where they were enrolled in the Roman army! They had to take the oath and practise for battle using their spears and shields.

They then took a rather rainy walk around the fort ruins to get a real feel for how the Romans would have lived and worked together.

The children designed and made their own Roman shields…

… and mosaic tiles. Don’t their creations all look brilliant!

Ancient Egyptian afternoon in Chestnuts

12th July 2023G Mills

In Chestnuts, we have had an Ancient Egyptian afternoon where we invited parents to see what we have been up to.

We tasted lots of typical Ancient Egyptian food such as bread, honey, figs and cheese. We also made jewellery and Tutankhamen style headdresses.

Roman Day!

10th July 2023Hannah Edgar

This week Cherries had their own Roman day in class. They dressed up as Romans wearing armour and tunics!

They designed and painted their own shields, then marched around the yard to scare away enemies.
