Birches class enjoy daily mindfulness and fine motor sessions. The children will choose an item to sit with while we listen to a mindfulness/meditation video. These really help the children feel calm and regulated for the afternoon. When asked the children said they feel calm, happy and good when doing mindfulness.
Today in mindfulness club we did some positive quote colouring, played with the lego, and did some cosmic yoga.

We listened carefully to adults and each other, took turns and respected the equipment we used. We enjoyed exploring the resources in the Nurture Room.
This week as part of our topic work we read the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ by Eileen Browne. We shared our ideas and talked about the characters, setting and events.
Next we talked about our favourite fruits, linking what we had read to our own experiences. Everyone brought in some fruit from home to share with the class to make a fruit salad.
We worked carefully to wash, peel and chop the fruit, and then selected what we wanted to put in our fruit salad. It was delicious!
Afterwards we drew some of the fruits, attempted to label them and used descriptive vocabulary to talk about them.
Well done Acorns!

We have been focussing on working together as a team and communicating to share our ideas. We decided to make an obstacle course outside, but first we had to consider a few things:-
Work with a friend to carry heavy equipment. This helps to develop our communication, language, PSED and physical skills.
Make sure equipment is steady and safe before using it.
Take care when adding new parts to the track.
Make sure the route is clear and safe.
We all had lots of fun whilst learning!
Chestnuts had the opportunity to practice their golfing skills at the SEND Golfway Skills Festival at Temple Park. We participated in a range of different golf activities with 31 other schools. The children really enjoyed the morning and were fantastic ambassadors for Fellgate.
This week in science the children explored how things can change shape. The children observed how the chocolate changed shape to make rice crispy cakes. They were great at explaining what had happened to the chocolate!
In Sycamores, we are reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. This week, we have been learning all about diary writing. The children used freeze framing for four key scenes to infer the character’s thoughts and feelings at different parts of the chapter. They really focussed on the facial expressions and gestures to show how the characters were at that moment. The rest of the class were a great audience whilst each group performed their freeze frames and could guess who each of the characters were from their expression. Great work Sycamores!

This week in Maples the children have been showcasing their brilliant math skills taking part in three short mathematical tasks a day. They have all tried really hard and have proved what brilliant little learners they are. We have had a little treat and been to soft play this week which the children loved and enjoyed snack time with lots of new fruits such as kiwi and candy floss grapes!
This week in cookery club we made delicious chocolate brownies. We worked really well in our groups to weigh, measure and mix the ingredients. Then we all took a turn at either washing or drying the dishes. We all agreed that the smell of the brownies cooking was amazing!
