The children have been learning about traditional African music. This week we’ve been listening to traditional music using djembe drums. The children listened to the music then each had a turn using the drums and created some simple drum beat patterns.
This week in Mathematics, we are exploring, copying and continuing patterns.
We went on a walk around school to look for examples of patterns in the environment. There were lots! Then back in class we looked at some patterns and explained what we could see, before continuing them.
Finally we all had a go at creating our own patterns, explaining them to a partner.

This week in Acorns we have been reading the traditional story ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. In Literacy we listened to the story and then retold it in our own words, using vocabulary we had learned and also words we thought of ourselves – ‘the terrifying Troll’, ‘the worried Billy Goat’ and ‘the tasty green grass’.
We linked this to our work in Mathematics about size; we talked about the different sizes of the goats in the story and put pictures in size order.
As part of our Science work we carried out a creative challenge to build a bridge that was strong and sturdy enough for a toy to balance on. There were some fantastic problem solving and teamwork skills involved!
Outside we imagined that we had to build a route across the outdoor area to protect us from the Troll! We worked together safely to carry and move equipment, and develop a solid track from the beginning to the end.

What a brilliant, fun filled sensory session we have had. The children (and staff) thoroughly enjoyed spending time in the soft play room. See how much fun they have had!
This week in Flourish club the children have created some colourful hedgehogs. They used a variety of colours to make their hedgehogs nice and bright. The children even named their hedgehogs!
The children in Rowans have worked so hard this week. In Phonics, the children have been learning the new phoneme +a and +er and practised the action and letter formation. The children have been reading ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. This story links to our current topic of ‘Let’s Explore’. The children listened to the story and shared there thoughts and ideas. Then the children made a story map to show what happens in the book. In science, the children have explored the process of freezing and melting. In PE, the children have practiced balancing.
Maples have had a lovely week this week, we have carried out various exciting tasks in math’s and phonics as well as pretended to be pirates and use our knowledge of compass points to direct our friends to the hidden treasure. We ended our week with a Friday fun session with our parents where we got in the spirit for Halloween and made spooky skeletons and decorated cakes with brains and eyeballs. Yum! Before the children left we enjoyed a little dance to good old assembly songs, everyone had fun!

This week, we have been reading the book “Stone Age Boy” as part of our Stone Age topic.
We have produced some fantastic work: retelling the story and writing setting descriptions.

We only had a small group for Cookery Club this week so we all had lots of jobs to do! Even though it is only our third week the children’s baking skills are improving massively.
This week we made jam thumbprint cookies – they looked and smelt amazing when they came out of the oven! We also had a ‘What Am I?’ food quiz that everyone was brilliant at!
