This week we have enjoyed sharing books with our parents and carers. Every Friday they are invited into class to listen to a story and then help us choose a library book to take home.
As part of our ‘Let’s Explore’ topic, we went outside to look at animal habitats, exploring who lives in our garden and school grounds. We found lots of worms, woodlice and even a ladybird!
In Maths we have continued with ‘match, sort and compare’. This week we talked about identifying our sorting criteria, and used correct mathematical vocabulary to describe what we were doing.
We made self-portraits and practised writing our names….
We also shared our delicious homemade flapjack with our grown ups when they came in to read with us. Yum!
In flourish club the children have been taking part in a variety of activities. The children created lovely art work and had time to socialise working on their communication needs.
We have also played group games focusing on turn taking and communication skills. The children have enjoyed spending social time with one another.

In Science this week, Oaks planned and carried out an investigation to measure how restricted or blocked arteries affected blood flow.
We used 4 cups, each with a different sized hole to represent the size of a blood vessel. We measured how long it would take 100ml of liquid to empty in each cup. We recorded out work in small groups and did it 3 times with each cup so we could work out the average.
At the end of the session, we compared our results with our predictions and discussed what this showed us and proved.
The children had a great time working in small groups and work tremendously hard to involve everyone at each stage of the experiment.
In Chestnuts we have been brushing up our golf skills ready for our golf competition next week. We have been learning how to control the club and to look at where we want to aim the ball. The children displayed some great skills!
For our first week in Eco club we though about what we wanted to do to improve our school environment and we came up with some great ideas. We then went on a litter pick around school and left the school fields nice and tidy!
In Art this week, the children had to identify the features of a face to create a self portrait. Have a look at how fabulous they are!

The children in Rowans have worked very hard. In maths the children in reception have compared a variety of sizes, capacities, weights and lengths using objects. The children in year one have completed counting tasks. In phonics the reception children have learnt new phonemes S and A. The children in year one have learnt the diagraph +ow. In science the children have explored the textures of objects using a feely box. In computing the children practiced moving and clicking the mouse.
A super duper week Rowans, well done!!
