Introducing FROZEN FLAVOURS- Our summer enterprise

19th May 2023S Graham

This week we began planning our summer enterprise. From Monday we will be selling delicious ice lollies outside of Oaks classroom at breaktimes (Monday-Thursday) to raise funds for rewards and to provide some equipment for our school.

We have started writing an advertising campaign and are in the process of recording some examples to advertise online, on dojo and in/around the school.

Here is a sample of all of our hard work,  written by Jake in Oaks:

Introducing our new, fantastic summer enterprise: Frozen Flavours! Are you hot and bothered on a summer’s day? Do you crave a flavourful, refreshing treat at break time? If so, Frozen Flavours is here to help! Boring break times will be a thing of the past! We guarantee we will put a big grin on your face. Hello summer!

Imagine this, you’re enjoying a refreshing, mouth-watering frozen treat on a sweltering summer day. Every week, we switch up the frozen treat selection. One week rocket lollies, the next fruit twisters and many more… We will have something for all children to enjoy. Don’t worry parents, at the annual summer fair, we’ll be there!

Some of the money raised will go to Fellgate Primary School’s clubs, music equipment, playground equipment, art and school supplies. Also, it will help the students’ learning here at Fellgate Primary School. You can find us at Oaks’ classroom door. Some of the funds raised will be used for trip and rewards. The summer enterprise is a fun tradition for the Year 6 children, which gives them lots of responsibility.

Parents, if your child has any allergies, get in touch. We will make arrangements so your child can enjoy our brrr-illiant frozen treats.

Frozen Flavours is perfect to cool down on a hot summers day. Hello summer!

As you can tell, we were all extremely proud of our hard work!

We even had someone take the time to create an amazing logo for our enterprise using a laptop.

Super Sentences and Clever Calculations

19th May 2023A Malone

This week, Reception Acorns have been reading ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ by Giles Andreae.

We wrote some sentences about the animals, remembering to start with a capital letter, use finger spaces between words and end with a full stop. Then we checked our sentences by reading them to make sure they made sense.

We also used our phonics skills to spell words independently, and tried to sit our writing neatly on the lines.

In Maths, we have been exploring the + and = symbols, and making some addition calculations. We made groups of animals to work out the answers.

Spaghetti Structures

17th May 2023A Tod

Willows joined forces with Cherries this week to create and test some 3D structures they made using spaghetti and plasticine. They found that spaghetti didn’t make the best structure… it was a bit flimsy and not very sturdy!

This is the first step in their journey to making their own miniature greenhouses for their DT topic this term.

Check in again next week to see them testing some other materials!

Mission Im-pasta-ble

16th May 2023Hannah Edgar

As part of Cherries and Willows DT topic, greenhouses, the children were building models with spaghetti and plasticine and were posed the question is spaghetti good or bad to build with and why? The children agreed spaghetti was a bad choice as it’s too weak and fragile and the models fell and broke easily. In the coming weeks we are going to focus on strengthening structures to build our final product.

Clay Statues in Chestnuts

15th May 2023G Mills

As part of our art topic, Chestnuts have been looking at statues and statuettes from throughout history.

We we have used clay to create our our figures of people. It was quite hard to shape the clay carefully and add intricate details.

Don’t they look amazing?

Chestnuts Visit The Hancock Museum

15th May 2023G Mills

Chestnuts have had a fantastic day at The Great North Museum (Hancock) in Newcastle.

We have learned lots about Ancient Egypt and were wowed by the real artefacts, especially the mummified bodies on display! We will follow up this learning over the next few weeks in class.

The children’s behaviour was perfect! We even received an email to school from a Metro passenger, saying how polite and well-behaved the children had been whilst travelling. All staff and children feel very proud! ☺️

In geography and science the children explored learnt about the different habitats and climates animals live in. They particularly enjoyed learning about the cold climate of the Artic. Dear Diary

12th May 2023Hannah Edgar

As part of our English work this week the children in Cherries have been writing diary entries. They pretended they were alive in Pompeii when Mount Vesuvius erupted and had some excellent ideas about what they would have seen, felt and heard. Take a look at some of our diary entries.
