This week, as part of our DT topic “Cook Well Eat Well” we made ratatouille. Willows and Cherries love working with each other!
The children continued to develop their safe cutting and cooking skills. They followed a recipe and then wrote their own ordered steps.
When it was cooked, the children tasted the ratatouille and thought it was delicious – even Mr Mills was impressed!

This week we are exploring robots as part of our Marvellous Machines topic. We read the book ‘No-Bot, The Robot With No Bottom’, and looked at some photographs of real robots.
Then we designed and built some junk model robots. We have put them on display, and next we will talk about how we could improve them further, and make adaptations to them.
We worked really hard independently and with our friends, talking about what we were doing and exploring different methods and techniques. If something didn’t work, we tried doing it another way! Teamwork makes the dream work!
As part of our DT topic “Cook Well, Eat Well” we explored the many different ways potatoes can be cooked. We went into our life skills flat with our friends in Willows to boil some potatoes and roast some to turn them into chips. We practiced our peeling, chopping and cutting skills – being careful with the sharp knives. We were also extremely careful with the hot pan and oven.

In Chestnuts we have been celebrating a raising funds for Children in Need. All the children enjoyed breaking the rules especially having their faces painted and getting glitter tattoos.
We also followed instructions to make Pudsey biscuits and then decorated them. We enjoyed having them for snack!
As a class we raised £29.50 in total! What a bunch of rule breakers!
This week as part of our topic work we read the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ by Eileen Browne. We shared our ideas and talked about the characters, setting and events.
Next we talked about our favourite fruits, linking what we had read to our own experiences. Everyone brought in some fruit from home to share with the class to make a fruit salad.
We worked carefully to wash, peel and chop the fruit, and then selected what we wanted to put in our fruit salad. It was delicious!
Afterwards we drew some of the fruits, attempted to label them and used descriptive vocabulary to talk about them.
Well done Acorns!

This week in science the children explored how things can change shape. The children observed how the chocolate changed shape to make rice crispy cakes. They were great at explaining what had happened to the chocolate!
This week we had great fun getting out the bikes, trikes and scooters and working together to make them shiny and clean!
We filled our buckets with soapy water and used sponges, cloths and wipers to clean the vehicles.
We read the story ‘Wow Said the Owl’ and explored our favourite colours. Everyone contributed to a beautiful display on our classroom wall. In the story there was a rainbow, so we discussed how rainbows appear and even sang a French song ‘Arc-en-Ciel’, which taught us how to say the names of colours in French.

We had lots of fun outdoors, including investigating water, developing our number skills with the giant dominoes, and learning how to use tools safely and competently.
We’ve also enjoyed some delicious school meals, and joined in with our daily ‘Wake up Shake up’ sessions.
In D&T the children built boats using junk modelling materials. They then tested their boats to see if they would sink or float, it was super fun!
We invited our parents and carers into school for our design and make element of our D.T. topic. Blossoms have been learning all about different types of architecture and they had to create piece of architecture from one of the eras they have learnt about. Amazing work Blossoms!

Birches have been learning about the different kinds of mechanisms in DT. The children created their own design plan to create their own moving picture. The children chose to create a picture using a sliding mechanism. The children referred back to their plan to create their designs.
