Science in Cherries

2nd February 2024G Mills

This week in science, Cherries were testing to see if different surface materials on a ramp would change the speed a boat travelled down.

We found a rough surface slowed down the boat, due to increased friction.
The smooth wet surface made the boat speed up, due to less friction.

Stretching Materials

26th January 2024E Kincaid

In Science, Hawthorns have been learning about the use of everyday materials. We investigated how stretchy objects are. First, we measured the length of our objects. Then we stretched them. Finally, we measured them again to see if the length had changed. Fantastic measuring skills Hawthorns!

How materials can be changed!

26th January 2024E Kincaid

This week in Science, Hawthorns were investigating how materials can be changed. They tried to squash, stretch, bend and twist materials to see if their shape would change. We found out that the force needed to change an object’s shape is either a push or a pull.

The Great North Museum

12th January 2024A Hearn

This week Chestnuts visited the Great North Museum in Newcastle. We had a busy day exploring all the different exhibitions. We really enjoyed visiting the planetarium where we learned about how astronauts travel to and survive in space. We completed a workshop where we looked at animal classifications and we were able to interact with a range of different animals that had been mounted.  We especially loved travelling on the metro. The children were fantastic ambassadors for the school!

Earth and Space Exploration at the Great North Museum

12th January 2024Mrs Storey

Sycamores enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Great North Museum with Chestnuts to consolidate our Science learning from last half term. At the museum, we visited the planetarium, used the Ancient Greek activity packs as a pre-teaching task for Summer term, explored the different galleries and took part in a workshop all about the Moon. The children really impressed us with what they had remembered from their Earth and Space Science topic and could explain why we have night and day.  Sycamores were absolutely amazing and were fantastic ambassadors for our school. We were extremely proud of them all.

Halloween Crispy Treats

18th October 2023L Abbott

It’s been a quiet week in Flourish club with only two children. This week we had lots of fun making Halloween crispy cakes. The children were able to follow instructions in the correct order to successfully make their yummy cakes! They used the microwave independently to melt the chocolate and were able to use their fine motor skills to scrape the mixture into the cake cases.
