This week the children have been reading the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children were amazing at sequencing and retelling the story using props. In art the children used hand and finger prints to create a caterpillar.
Today we did lots of activities for World Maths Day. In English we looked at some counting and number stories, then made our own number books.
In Maths, we explored money and set up a class shop, writing our own price tags and then buying things with real money.
In Art we found out about the artist Paul Klee, who created abstract art using colour and shape. We then made our own ‘Castle and Sun’ art work.
We also played the game ‘Toyshop Money’ on TopMarks Maths on the iPads. We had a great day and really enjoyed linking maths to all areas of the curriculum.

Willows had a wonderful time on World Book Day!
They all wore fabulous costumes and took part in some exciting activities.
Their friends form Cherries joined them in the morning and they did some shared reading. Then, later on in the day, they went to the book swap and were able to choose a book to take home.
This week in Cherries we have read The Dinosaur That Pooped the Past. The children completed some work around retelling the story, rhyming words, fixing punctuation and drew their own snapshot of the dinosaur visiting somewhere different from the past. He visited The Stone Age, The Bronze Age, The Titanic and The Britannic.
This week in Acorns we have been thinking about our new topic – Ready, Steady, Grow.
We will be learning about where our food comes from, finding out about farms, exploring plants and animals and how they grow and change, and hopefully doing some food preparation and tasting!
‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ by Vivian French.
We explored some of the vegetables in the story using touch, sight, smell and taste.
Where does food come from?
We look forward to finding out answers to our questions and learning lots of new things!
For World Book day we started the day by listening to and reading the story ‘A Teddy bear’s Picnic’. We all brought in our favourite teddies to show the class and have with us while we read stories throughout the day. We created our own book marks and book pictures using our cutting and sticking skills. We enjoyed some paired reading with the children in Blossoms class and each chose a book to take home form the book swap.
To end the day we all had our own teddy bear’s picnic!
As part of our book swap celebrations we asked for children to donate any unwanted books. We hoped that we would have lots of books brought into school and that every single child could then choose a new book to take home and enjoy.
We were all blown away by the amount of books we kindly received. The children loved picking their new books and it was fantastic to see all of the happy faces throughout the day.
With the remaining books we will have a permanent book swap display in our school where children are free to take a book whenever they like. We also have used some of the books to make a brand new outdoor reading books. This will allow even more children to read at break times and lunchtimes.
Once again, thank you to everyone who donated books.
Mr Graham
In Sycamores, we had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day! We dressed up as some of our favourite characters, shared stories with our Acorn buddies and designed book tokens for a competition.
Rowans had a super duper World Book Day. We chose the story of Old MacDonald Had A Farm to share with our friends in class. We then visited the book swap to choose a fabulous new book to take home to share with our families.

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, Chestnuts came dressed as their favourite book characters. Don’t we look amazing?
We also chose new books as part of our whole book swap.
During the afternoon, we entered a competition to design a new book token and Blossoms class visited us. We read stories to each other; it was lots of fun!
