We used our sketching skills to draw polar bears. We had to look really carefully at the example picture and recreate what we could see.
Birches have been looking at different examples of Inuit art. This week we used ‘The Enchanted Owl’ by Kenojuak Ashevak to inspire our own owl prints.
This week in Birches we have been developing our understanding of fractions, solving fraction problems in different ways and using our mental maths knowledge, written maths skills and practical objects.
Birches were all pleased to see each other after the holidays! It was lovely to see them catching up and talking about what they’ve done during the break.
Our new topic is ‘Frozen Kingdoms’. We will be learning about the Arctic and Antarctic – the landscapes, the people who live and explore there and the wildlife.
This week in Maples the children have worked really hard as always we have been practicing our handwriting, rhyming words and reading. In DT this week the children learnt how to use different cooking utensils to peel, chop and mash fruit and vegetables.
The children in Rowans had lots of fun writing their letters to Santa. The children selected toys from a catalogue and then created a Christmas wish list for Santa. The children then walked to the post box to post their letters, which was super exciting!!!
In October, Year 4, 5 and Year 6 who were not attending the Kingswood residential had the opportunity to visit Simonside Climbing Wall as part of our PE curriculum. The children participated in two activities; archery and rock climbing. Their behaviour was impeccable and it was amazing to watch their confidence grow as they overcame fears and climbed the wall. The children also thoroughly enjoyed the archery and it was lovely to see fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship. Great work everyone!
This week in maths the children in reception have been learning all about the composition of numbers to 3. The children in year one have continued to consolidate comparing numbers using greater than, less than and equal to. In phonics the children in reception learnt all about the +d sound whilst they children in year one learnt about the +oo sound. In computing the children practiced logging into their purple mash accounts and selected activities. In science the children learnt about mechanisms and created their own peg car using wheels and axles. Well done Rowans!
