Geography

1, 2, 3!

18th October 2023A Malone

This week in Acorns our Maths work has been all about the numbers 1, 2 and 3. We have been looking for the numerals in the environment, and making representations of the numbers in different ways.

We have read stories linked to groups of three, including The Three Little Pigs and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We made story maps to retell the stories, and designed some strong and sturdy bridges!

Next we are looking forward to building houses for the Three Little Pigs!

Another Great Week in Maples!

17th September 2023S Wilkinson

The children in Maples have worked so hard this week. In Phonics, the children have been learning new phonics sounds and consolidating their segmenting and blending skills. In Maths, each of the children have worked hard on their own individual targets, including counting, identifying more/less as well  greater than/less than and equals. In Geography we identified how the land and sea are represented on a world map and have coloured their own to demonstrate their understanding. In History, we identified and discussed who the significant people are for each of us and in art we enjoyed exploring and painting using primary colours.

Have a look at our amazing work!

Fieldwork Fortnight and Pirate Fun!

17th July 2023A Malone

Last week we had a mysterious message from a pirate! Ooo arrr!

We had to solve some clues and follow a map to find the treasure.

We all worked as part of a team and had to be very careful that we weren’t spotted by any enemies!

We worked out where the treasure was by reading the clues and looking at the map. Some of us made our own messages and maps!

Finally we found the treasure – golden chocolate stars! Yum!

Geography Fieldwork In Chestnuts

12th July 2023G Mills

As part of national fieldwork fortnight, Chestnuts carried out transport and pedestrian counts around the Fellgate estate.

We came back to school and analysed what we had found. We thought about how the council often carry out fieldwork to make decisions on road crossings, traffic calming measures and pedestrian walkways.
