Plant Experiment

14th March 2023A Tod

Our science topic this half term is ‘Plants’, so the children set up their own experiment to test the different factors that affect plant growth.

As a class, we discussed the things that plants need to grow and then we decided on where we would place our plants to test our questions.

Can a plant grow with no water?

Can a plant grow with no light?

Can a plant grow with no heat?

We have been observing how are plants are growing and taking pictures of them regularly.

Inuit Soap Sculptures in Oaks

10th March 2023S Graham

In our Frozen Kingdoms topic we have been looking at Inuit art. In the last few weeks we have been printing, making stencils, sketching and blending colours.

This week we created our animal soap carvings inspired by the Inuit people who have produced many incredible pieces of art using soapstone.

I think you can all agree they look pretty amazing…plus our classroom smells amazing!

Les Aventures de la Petite Boule Bleue

10th March 2023S Graham

In French this week we been continuing our French topic: j’habite

We have been writing our own sentences in French telling the story of the little blue ball who keeps hiding.

We used our knowledge of places around the home, common places to visit and prepositions to create our own comic strips.

10th March 2023Hannah Edgar

This week in Cherries we have read The Dinosaur That Pooped the Past. The children completed some work around retelling the story, rhyming words, fixing punctuation and drew their own snapshot of the dinosaur visiting somewhere different from the past. He visited The Stone Age, The Bronze Age, The Titanic and The Britannic.

Computing with Hollies and Acorns

10th March 2023A Hutchinson

This half term Hollies and Acorns are looking at the topic Maze Explorers. They have used a variety of technology to create algorithms including the BeeBots, Purple Mash and the iPads. This week they helped design a simple track and tried using the arrows to explore which direction the BeeBots needed to go. They also completed a number of Maze Explorer tasks using Purple Mash. We found the second maze a little tricky but we got there in the end!

Ready, Steady, Grow!

8th March 2023A Malone

This week in Acorns we have been thinking about our new topic – Ready, Steady, Grow.

We will be learning about where our food comes from, finding out about farms, exploring plants and animals and how they grow and change, and hopefully doing some food preparation and tasting!

‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ by Vivian French.

We explored some of the vegetables in the story using touch, sight, smell                                  and taste.

Where does food come from?

We look forward to finding out answers to our questions and learning lots of new things!
