Beach Hut Making in Maples!

20th March 2023S Wilkinson

As part of our DT topic the children in Maples have used wood to build their own beach hut. They used a junior saw to cut the wood to the correct size, sandpaper to smooth the edges and then a glue gun to stick all of the pieces of wood together. They were all amazing and super sensible, we are very proud of them!

Science Week and Red Nose Day in Pines…

20th March 2023L Calder

This week in Pines we celebrated British Science Week, the theme was ‘connections’, we connected photographs of animals by matching them together and then connected with nature by making some bird feeders.

For Red Nose Day we enjoyed reading a Mr Men story and creating our own red noses after we enjoyed trying on this years red noise first!

Investigating Prints for British Science Week

20th March 2023Mrs Storey

Blossoms had a great time for British Science Week investigating our fingerprints and types that we have.  We first tried taking the prints with flour but these were not very clear so we then tried graphite pencils and they were much easier to see.  Next, we used magnifying glasses to see if we could decide on our fingerprint types from arch, whorl or loop.  We discovered that our fingerprints didn’t always follow the same type even if they were from the same hand and that none of the class had identical prints.  Finally, Blossoms connected their learning with occupations that may use this technique such as Forensic Scientists.  Super investigating Blossoms!

Red Nose Day

17th March 2023Hannah Edgar

For Red Nose Day Cherries staff and children all chose their own Mr Men and Little Miss character that represented them.

We then went to Willows and drew our own face with a red nose, designed 6 different red noses and coloured in some Mr Men and Little Miss characters.

We then played some Mr Men and Little Miss bingo in class.

This Week in Hollies

17th March 2023A Hutchinson

13.03.23-17.02.23

We have had another busy week in Hollies! The children have completed so many maths and English activities, including number bonds to five, reading ‘ee’ words and looking for the initial and end sounds. We tried to match up pictures of animals as part of science week. We have also been decorating fish and sea creatures as part of our display.

Science Week in Acorns

14th March 2023A Malone

This week we have been carrying out scientific jobs in class as part of science week. We explored ‘connections’ by matching animal faces to make sure they made a complete face, and we made our own butter!

We investigated how the liquid cream changes into solid butter by being shaken in a jar. It was amazing as we watched and heard the cream turning into a solid!

After we made the butter we all tasted it on some bread, and agreed that it was yummy!

Connections in Cherries

14th March 2023Hannah Edgar

For British Science Week Cherries made paper cup phones to connect with each other. The children were amazed they could hear their friends across the classroom, or even in different rooms.
