This week in Rowan’s the children have been learning all about the +ee sound and consolidating phase 2 phonemes. The children listened to the story of Commotion in the Ocean. In maths the children have explored the composition of numbers to 20 and have continued to explore doubles. In art the children made their own jellyfish, they look super duper! In P.E the children practiced hitting the ball and collecting the ball. In science the children learnt about snow and melting. The children followed instructions to make snow and then created a snowman!
This week in Rowan’s the children listened to the story of Sharing a Shell. In art the children used air dry clay to make their own shells, they look fabulous! In phonics the children have been learning all about the +ng sound. In maths the children have explored the composition of numbers from 11 to 15, composed and decomposed 2d shape in pictures and have explored making doubles with the dice pattern. In P.E the children practiced throwing the ball into a target to score points. In science and D.T the children learnt about the wind and made a kite, they had lots of fun testing the kites to see if they would fly!
This week in Rowan’s class the children have started the new topic of On the Beach. In phonics the children have been learning all about the +th sound. In colourful semantics the children have been constructing sentences to describe action scenes. In maths some of the children have explored number bonds to 5 whilst others have practiced taking away from a number. In science we explored rain, ice and water. The children completed an experiment to observe what would happen to the ice when we placed it on a plate above a jug of hot water. The children loved watching it rain as the iced melted. In geography the children listened to the story of Somebody Swallowed Stanley which was a story about a plastic bag in the sea. The children then explored a water tuff tray to see what objects they could find and if they needed to be recycled or put in the bin.
In art this week the children selected their favourite animal to make a mask. Firstly the children painted the paper plate with base colour of the animal and then added spot, stripes and features of the animals face to make their masks. Well done, they look fabulous!

This week in Rowans the children have been learning all about birds as part of the science topic. In DT the children followed instruction to make bird feeders to hang on the trees in front of the Penshaw building.
This week in phonics the children have been learning all about the ‘qu’ sound. The children have also completed phase 2 consolidation tasks. In maths the children practiced identifying the pattern of a dice and the numerical meaning, counting on from a number and took turns during a variety of dice games. In geography and science the children explored learnt about the different habitats and climates animals live in. They particularly enjoyed learning about the cold climate of the Artic. Great work Rowan’s class!
This week the children have been reading the story of Handa’s Surprise. The children sequenced the story and retold the story in their own words. The children explored the seven fruits that Handa had put in her basket. The children then recorded if they liked, disliked or did not try the fruits. In art the children continued working on animal patterns and created colourful snake skins as they practiced the skills of painting and rolling.
We decorated our crowns and made flags using tissue paper for the Coronation party.

This week in Rowan’s class we learnt a new sound +y. The children have practiced blending, spelling and writing words that include the sound +y. The children have also continued to consolidate their understanding of GPCs. In maths we have have explored the one more than and one less than relationship between consecutive numbers, explored 3D shapes and made comparisons between the capacity of liquid. In Understanding the World we explored animals that are from hot and cold climates. In Expressive Arts and Design we made snakes using mouldable clay and bubble wrap to make the snake print!
This week in Rowans class we have been reading and sequencing the story of Dear Zoo. In phonics and maths we have completed lots of tasks. In science our topic is animals and we had to identify and sort farmyard animals. In art we identified animals and the colours needed to create animal prints using foam rollers.
