This Week in Hollies

10th February 2023A Hutchinson

6.3.23-10.3.23

It has been a busy week in Hollies. We have completed many maths and English jobs throughout the week. In DT we designed our own London taxi and we will begin making them next week. In art we created prints using our Collagraphy blocks, they looked amazing! In geography we went for a walk around the local area to look for physical features. In science we looked at the types of clothes we wear in the summer. As part of mental health week we looked at what it means to stay connected to our important people and friends. We all decorated a person to be displayed outside the classroom to show we are all connected. Finally, in RE we looked at the important symbols associated with Christianity and created our own stained glass window.

Children’s Mental Health Week 2023

10th February 2023A Malone

In Acorns we read ‘The Invisible String’, and thought about the ways that we are connected to people we love, even if we can’t always see them.

We drew ourselves, and the people we are connected to by ‘invisible strings’.

This Week in Maples!

10th February 2023S Wilkinson

We have had a very busy week in Maples. In Phonics the children have consolidated their phonics knowledge and have been confidently reading various words and phrases. In maths the children have been working hard on their individual targets, including counting, place value and adding one more. In Science we conducted an experiment to see which materials can be stretched, bent, twisted or squashed. The children thoroughly enjoyed this! It has also been children’s mental health week and the children have been looking at who is important to them and have created their own artwork showing the important people who link to them.

Have a look at the fun they had!

World Mental Health Day 2023

9th February 2023I Broomes

During World Mental Health Health Day, we read the story called ‘The Invisible String’. We discussed how we are connected to people by an imperceptible yet unbreakable string of love. We all drew a picture of ourselves and around this we drew people who are important to us.

Safer Internet Day and more…..

7th February 2023A Malone

We have been finding out how to stay safe online. We read the story ‘Hanni and the Magic Window’ and discussed what we could do if we saw something online or elsewhere that made us feel upset or worried. Then we drew things that we would like to see if we had our own magic window.

In English we read the story ‘Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge’ by Mem Fox. This is a lovely story about a little boy who helps an elderly lady to find her lost memories. We then shared some of our own favourite memories with the class.

Our grown ups have been helping us with our topic work. We gave them a task of telling us about their favourite toys when they were children. We are going to put this information onto a timeline to show how toys have changed over time.
