This week in Cookery Club we made one of our most popular bakes – chocolate chip cookies! It was lovely to see some of our more experienced bakers helping those children who haven’t been to Cookery Club before. We were all brilliant at taking turns weighing, mixing and washing up!

This week Chestnuts visited the Great North Museum in Newcastle. We had a busy day exploring all the different exhibitions. We really enjoyed visiting the planetarium where we learned about how astronauts travel to and survive in space. We completed a workshop where we looked at animal classifications and we were able to interact with a range of different animals that had been mounted. We especially loved travelling on the metro. The children were fantastic ambassadors for the school!
This week in Acorns we have begun our new topic ‘Long Ago’. We looked at photos of ourselves as babies and talked about how we have changed. We are going to be finding out about our family history and life in the past.
We have also started to set up a new hospital/surgery role play area. We have researched the jobs of people who work in hospitals and also used our own ideas and experiences to help us to add resources to this area. It’s been lots of fun and we can’t wait to find out more.
Sycamores enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Great North Museum with Chestnuts to consolidate our Science learning from last half term. At the museum, we visited the planetarium, used the Ancient Greek activity packs as a pre-teaching task for Summer term, explored the different galleries and took part in a workshop all about the Moon. The children really impressed us with what they had remembered from their Earth and Space Science topic and could explain why we have night and day. Sycamores were absolutely amazing and were fantastic ambassadors for our school. We were extremely proud of them all.

This week Maples have came back smiling and eager to learn! We have worked hard in math’s, phonics, geography and RE but the most exciting task this week was getting to read or listen to stories in our new reading area we call The Book Nook. Maples all love a good story and we are always impressed with the efforts they make to read themselves.
This week in maths the children have practiced identifying number representations to five, added numbers bonds within 10 and played lots of games, such as, pairs, snakes and ladders and shape dinosaurs. In phonics the children have practiced blending words with phoneme ‘e’ whilst some of the other children have practiced reading and writing phase 4 captions. In P.E the children enjoyed a gymnastics session with Acorns. A fun filled week!
South Tyneside Parent Carer Forum need your help gathering thoughts and experiences on Transitions!
Has your child or young person experienced a transition in the last 12 months? If so, we would love to hear from you!
Effective and successful transitions, from one setting to another and/or from one class to another are crucial to a child/young person’s learning and their wellbeing.
We often hear from parents about poorly handled transitions when information about prior learning or support is not shared at the right time to provide a smooth transition. We know this can have a significant impact on the child and their family.
STPCF are keen to find out about families’ experiences of transition arrangements in South Tyneside and identify what a good transition should look like.
Whilst your response will anonymous, we will share the findings from this survey with the Local Authority and other agencies, to help inform service improvement in this area.
As a special thank you for your valued time and input, please provide your email address at the end of the survey if you wish to be entered into a draw to win a £20, £30 or £50 voucher!

Hawthorns and Maples had a fantastic time at their winter warmer session! They learnt how to start a fire safely and toasted marshmallows to make yummy s’mores. A massive thank you to Sandra Godfrey from Tides of Change CIC for a fabulous session!
This week, as part of our Design Technology work, Cherries made pizzas. After designing them, we used real pizza dough topped with ham, cheese and a variety of vegetables including: red onions, red/green/yellow peppers, mushrooms and sweetcorn.
They were delicious!
