As part of our art topic, Chestnuts have been looking at statues and statuettes from throughout history.
We we have used clay to create our our figures of people. It was quite hard to shape the clay carefully and add intricate details.

This week in Hawthorns the children were asked to bring in an object that best represents them. We then worked hard to develop our observation skills to sketch the object. Have a look at Hawthorns in action!
Our art topic this half term is ‘Beautiful Botanicals’. To explore this theme, Willows went out into the school grounds to search for plants and flowers.
Once they returned to the classroom they set to work examining their samples and got straight on with sketching them.

This week the children have been reading the story of Handa’s Surprise. The children sequenced the story and retold the story in their own words. The children explored the seven fruits that Handa had put in her basket. The children then recorded if they liked, disliked or did not try the fruits. In art the children continued working on animal patterns and created colourful snake skins as they practiced the skills of painting and rolling.
We decorated our crowns and made flags using tissue paper for the Coronation party.
In Art we explored colour and texture, and created some amazing animal masks.
In Maths Reception investigated pattern.

Some of us attended the after school ‘Mindfulness Club’ on Thursday with Hawthorns.
Birches were really creative and took their time to draw their self portraits. 
In Art this week, Blossoms have been learning about traditional techniques that use paper. We have been practising quilling where you need to cut paper into strips, coil it and then glue it down into a pattern. We have also been working on paper folding (origami) and for this we used paper squares and folded them into butterflies. Super work Blossoms!
Birches created their own Union Jack flags. We used different tools to create the dotted effect in the style of pointillism.
In Oaks we had a great time creating our Easter eggs for the school Smelly egg competition.
It was amazing to see so many creative and unique ideas. Can you believe that even after teaching so long I am still seeing new designs and even new egg puns?
