Science Week and Red Nose Day in Pines…

20th March 2023L Calder

This week in Pines we celebrated British Science Week, the theme was ‘connections’, we connected photographs of animals by matching them together and then connected with nature by making some bird feeders.

For Red Nose Day we enjoyed reading a Mr Men story and creating our own red noses after we enjoyed trying on this years red noise first!

Red Nose Day

20th March 2023A Barnes

For Red Nose Day the children selected their favourite Mr Men or Little Miss characters and dressed up or wore the same colour as the character. We also completed colouring tasks and listen to some of the Mr Men and Little Miss stories.

Red Nose Day

17th March 2023Hannah Edgar

For Red Nose Day Cherries staff and children all chose their own Mr Men and Little Miss character that represented them.

We then went to Willows and drew our own face with a red nose, designed 6 different red noses and coloured in some Mr Men and Little Miss characters.

We then played some Mr Men and Little Miss bingo in class.

Ready, Steady, Grow!

8th March 2023A Malone

This week in Acorns we have been thinking about our new topic – Ready, Steady, Grow.

We will be learning about where our food comes from, finding out about farms, exploring plants and animals and how they grow and change, and hopefully doing some food preparation and tasting!

‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ by Vivian French.

We explored some of the vegetables in the story using touch, sight, smell                                  and taste.

Where does food come from?

We look forward to finding out answers to our questions and learning lots of new things!

Art and PSHE this week

13th February 2023H Warburton

As part of their art topic Cherries have been learning about ammonites. They used a Styrofoam template of an ammonite, painted it, then used a roller to print the design onto paper.

For Children’s Mental Heath week they connected with people in lots of ways – singing, playing, sharing toys, Lego, hugs to name a few. They also drew their own characters to represent them and what they liked.

Mental Health Week

13th February 2023Mrs Storey

Blossoms have really thought this week about how we can connect to others with this year’s theme: ‘Let’s Connect.’  We came up with some great ideas such as smile at others, sing, give them a hug or ask if they are doing OK.  For our work in class, we designed paper chains and on each paper chain, we drew anything that was special to us (such as special people, interests, food) and it really showed ways that we can be connected to others.

Anti-Bullying Week

28th November 2022G Mills

The week beginning 14th November was Anti-Bullying Week.

The whole school wore odd socks to begin our work in anti-bullying, to celebrate what makes us all unique.

As part of our PSHE lessons, all classes spoke about who they could “reach out” to if they were being bullied.

We also thought about how we could “reach out” to each other by being a good friend.

Children in Need

28th November 2022G Mills

On Friday 18th November, the whole school “showed our spots” to raise money for Children in Need.

Everyone wore spotty clothes, including face paints and Pudsey ears.

We held a cake sale, in place of our usual healthy tuck shop, and raised over £80.

Thank you to everyone for your effort and kind contributions.

Anti Bullying Week and Children in Need in Pines

23rd November 2022L Calder

To start anti-bullying week it was odd socks day, we each designed our own paid of odd socks and we talked about how important it is to be a good friend, we worked as a team to sort the pictures of being a good friend and not a good friend.

We have been reading stories about Pudsey bear and used our colourful semantics to write sentences about what was happening in the scenes. In art we worked collaboratively using different mediums to create a giant Pudsey for our classroom window. In maths we had to use our fine motor skills to pick up the counters and place the correct amount of spots on Pudsey’s bandana. In cookery, we followed the steps to create Pudsey biscuits. We each took turns to mix, roll and cut the dough and to decorate Pudsey in our own style!

Anti-Bullying Week 2022

21st November 2022S Graham

As part of our work in Anti-Bullying Week in Oaks we looked into the history of work by the Anti-Bulling Alliance which is the charity behind Anti Bullying week.

We explored lots of information about Anti -Bullying week and bullying in general. We researched key information and then produced detail non-chronological reports on the subject.

The children enjoyed writing up all of their facts, information and statistics on the subject in their 2 page spreads.
