This week in maths, Cherries have been comparing objects/numbers and ordering numbers within 50. The children have worked so hard to use the symbols for greater than and less than, as well as developing clear understanding of vocabulary including: more, less, bigger and smaller.

In Science, Hawthorns have been learning about the use of everyday materials. We investigated how stretchy objects are. First, we measured the length of our objects. Then we stretched them. Finally, we measured them again to see if the length had changed. Fantastic measuring skills Hawthorns!
This week in Birches we have been developing our understanding of fractions, solving fraction problems in different ways and using our mental maths knowledge, written maths skills and practical objects.
The children in Maples love our maths lessons. Sometimes the children learn and develop their skills through practical activities and sometimes they demonstrate their understanding through answering questions on bookmarks.
Have a look at the amazing maths work Maples have been doing!!
In Maths we have been learning all about ‘zero’. We have explored groups, saying which show zero and which don’t. We also investigated the composition of numbers up to 5, and created representations of numbers.

Playing a subitising game
This week in maths the children have practiced identifying number representations to five, added numbers bonds within 10 and played lots of games, such as, pairs, snakes and ladders and shape dinosaurs. In phonics the children have practiced blending words with phoneme ‘e’ whilst some of the other children have practiced reading and writing phase 4 captions. In P.E the children enjoyed a gymnastics session with Acorns. A fun filled week!
In maths this week, Cherries have been measuring using centimetres. We explored around the classroom to use our rulers, measuring carefully. We talked about things which were longer, taller and shorter – comparing things. Afterwards, we solved some length problems.
This week in Birches the children have been learning 3D shapes. They were able to identify the properties of different shapes including their faces, vertices and edges. The children were very enthusiastic about building their own 3D shapes using straws. The children thought carefully about how many pieces they would need to correctly make their shape.

This week in phonics, the children in reception have learnt all about the +o phoneme as they have practiced forming the grapheme and blending words. The children in year one have learnt about the +ear trigraph. The children practiced reading and writing words which contained the trigraph. In maths, the children in reception have represented 4 and 5 in different ways whilst the children in year one have explored the number line and introduce numbers as parts and wholes.
