This week in Maples the children learnt all about Remembrance Day and what poppies represent. We had lots of fun designing our own poppies and making delicious poppy biscuits which we all enjoyed at snack time in class. We have had a lovely first week back after half term and as a little treat we got enjoy soft play on Friday afternoon.
This week in Maples we have enjoyed Halloween themed math and phonic work as well as making spooky suncatchers and paper plate ghosts to decorate our class. We particularly enjoyed science this week where we did our first group experiment learning the importance of soap when washing our hands. To end the week and the first half term the children will be enjoying a mini Halloween disco in Maples class.
This week in Maples the children have been using their username and passwords to log into their purple mash accounts and navigate around Mini Mash. The children all thoroughly enjoying discovering different things including games and craft activities. A lovely session!
In Maples we are always trying to find ways in which the children can learn through play and satisfy their sensory need. This week we tested our fine motor skills by transferring water from one container to another with a sponge and we took part in a sensory dig in maths searching for numbers which we used to create and answer simple sums. The children loved it and all worked so hard.
Maples have had a lovely week this week, we have carried out various exciting tasks in math’s and phonics as well as pretended to be pirates and use our knowledge of compass points to direct our friends to the hidden treasure. We ended our week with a Friday fun session with our parents where we got in the spirit for Halloween and made spooky skeletons and decorated cakes with brains and eyeballs. Yum! Before the children left we enjoyed a little dance to good old assembly songs, everyone had fun!
This week in Maples the children have been showcasing their brilliant math skills taking part in three short mathematical tasks a day. They have all tried really hard and have proved what brilliant little learners they are. We have had a little treat and been to soft play this week which the children loved and enjoyed snack time with lots of new fruits such as kiwi and candy floss grapes!
In Art this week, the children in Maples have been looking at mixing primary colours in order to make secondary colours. The children have enjoyed creating their own artwork using the primary colours: red, yellow and blue. They have also created addition sentences showing what secondary colours can be made by mixing two primary colours.

The children in Maples have worked so hard this week. In Phonics, the children have been learning new phonics sounds and consolidating their segmenting and blending skills. In Maths, each of the children have worked hard on their own individual targets, including counting, identifying more/less as well greater than/less than and equals. In Geography we identified how the land and sea are represented on a world map and have coloured their own to demonstrate their understanding. In History, we identified and discussed who the significant people are for each of us and in art we enjoyed exploring and painting using primary colours.

Our children beginning their new journey in Maples class have had a very busy week. They have completed a variety of phonics, reading and maths activities and have really impressed their teachers with their positivity.
