This week in Maples the children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in DT. Our topic in DT is beach huts and we will soon be making our very own using wood. This week we looked at how we safely use tools such as the junior hacksaw to chop wood. The children have settled back in lovely since half term.
Maples children really enjoyed science this week, we tested different materials to find out whether they were absorbent or non-absorbent. The children quickly learnt which materials were which and were able to make their prediction before testing. Getting it right every single time!!
This week in Maples we looked into the celebration of Chinese New Year and how 2024 is the year of the Dragon. We learnt all about the tradition of gifting a red envelope with money which symbolizes good wishes and luck for the new year ahead. The children then created their very own envelope with chocolate coins in and then exchanged them with their peers. We finished the week off with another short cookery session making crispy cakes which Maples loved.
This week in Maples we have enjoyed looking at different types of homes in PSHE and learning map symbols in geography. Our story this week was Goldilocks and the three bears and the children created some lovely sentences and character descriptions based on what they learnt from the book. On Friday the children loved making their own delicious snacks and showed some brilliant independent skills buttering their toast and bagels and even washing up! Well done Maples!

This week in Maples we got to attend a music performance with our friends. The children really enjoyed learning about the percussion instruments used and some even got to have a try! Back in class Maples made their own band and played instruments such as the triangle, tambourines and bells whilst singing along to a song we learned from the Charanga music scheme. We have also enjoyed our fairytale of the week Little red riding hood and have wrote some fabulous sentences and character descriptions.
The children in Maples love our maths lessons. Sometimes the children learn and develop their skills through practical activities and sometimes they demonstrate their understanding through answering questions on bookmarks.
Have a look at the amazing maths work Maples have been doing!!
This week Maples have came back smiling and eager to learn! We have worked hard in math’s, phonics, geography and RE but the most exciting task this week was getting to read or listen to stories in our new reading area we call The Book Nook. Maples all love a good story and we are always impressed with the efforts they make to read themselves.
Hawthorns and Maples had a fantastic time at their winter warmer session! They learnt how to start a fire safely and toasted marshmallows to make yummy s’mores. A massive thank you to Sandra Godfrey from Tides of Change CIC for a fabulous session!
Its been a very busy but exciting week in Maples this week, we wrote and posted our letters to Santa, we learnt about food chains in science and continued to work really hard in math’s and phonics amongst other subjects. We also got some special treats this week including the opportunity to watch the pantomime and play in the snow!
This week the children in Maples have enjoyed an amazing Space Afternoon linked to our work on Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon. The children enjoyed retelling what happened to Neil Armstrong, created their own moons or asteroids using playdoh and racing rockets using balloons and string.
This week we have also enjoyed Children in Need. See how much fun we have had!
