As a school we have raised £69 due to the Coronation art project purchasing tea towels and mugs, this will be used for art projects and resources. Thank you to parents and carers for your support!
To further their learning on money, the children set up their own classroom shop.
There were shop keepers on the tills who had to count the money they were given and shop customers who had to ensure they gave the correct amount for each item they bought.
They really impressed me with their money skills!
This week, the children constructed a marble run. They used cardboard tubes, scissors and sellotape to make it and had to work well as a team. Their aim was to get the marble from the top of the run all the way down it to the marble jar at the bottom.
During the construction process they faced a few problems with the design and had to utilise their problem solving skills and knowledge of forces and gravity to solve these so that the marble would stay on the track.
In Computing this half term, the children in Maples will be creating melodies, rhythms and tunes using symbols which represent different musical instruments.
This week the children thoroughly enjoyed composing their own simple tunes using Purple Mash.
See how much fun they had!
Our new topic is ‘On the Beach’.
We will be learning about plants and animals that live near the sea, finding out about weather around the world, investigating ways to stay safe in the water and the sun, and exploring seaside holidays past and present.
This week we have started a display to show what we already know, and we will add to it as we learn more.
This half term in Science, we are learning all about the properties of materials. This week, we have been investigating which materials are soluble in water. This means that they dissolve and create a solution. We tested six different materials and were surprised by some of our results. For example, the tea leaves did not dissolve and we expected them too. We discussed this and thought that maybe the water needed to be hot for this to happen. We also found that some of our group’s sugar and water did not dissolve fully even though sugar is a solute. We decided that this was because there wasn’t enough water for the amount of substance and showed the importance of a fair test as different groups used different amounts of water and material. Excellent scientific enquiry Blossoms!

In art this week the children selected their favourite animal to make a mask. Firstly the children painted the paper plate with base colour of the animal and then added spot, stripes and features of the animals face to make their masks. Well done, they look fabulous!
