This week in Rowan’s class we learnt a new sound +b. The children have practiced blending, spelling and writing words that include the sound +b. The children have also continued to consolidate their understanding of GPCs.
The children have explored the changes in the natural world including the seasons, they then matched the season to the correct picture. During integration with Acorns class the children took turns and played lots of fun games such as; monkey business, pig goes pop and my dog has flees.

For Children’s Mental Heath week the children in Rowan’s class connected to each others as they decorated their own puzzle piece to make one connected picture. This picture will be displayed in class to remind the children of how we are all connected.
This week the children have explored the story of The Elves and The Shoemaker. The children had lot of fun cutting and sticking patterns to make their own shoes. As part of history and science we have been looking at our baby photos and comparing the changes that have occurred. The children loved looking at the photos of their friends as babies. We have also explored toys from the past and we had lots of fun playing with the different types of toys, some of our favourites were the spinning top, yoyo and carousel.

For Safer Internet Day, Rowan’s listened to the story of ‘Hanni and the Magic Window’. The children then coloured their own window and created a Rowans class house to remind us of the things we like to do at school.

We have been talking this week about how to keep safe on the internet. Some of us discussed how old we should be before doing certain things online. The boys were very thoughtful with their answers and listened well to each others opinions. Others talked about how they would get help if they saw something they didn’t like online. We all know that we should speak to a trusted adult if we see something that makes us uncomfortable.
This week the children have explored the story of The Gingerbread Man. In cookery we had to pour, stir and cut the mixture to make gingerbread men, they were delicious! We also had lots of fun building bridges to help the gingerbread man cross the river. In phonics the children have been learning the new sound of ‘r’, they have practiced forming this letter and blending CVC.
On Wednesday Hollies were the only class in the Penshaw building. They had an amazing day!
They started the day in the Sensory room, had an extra hall slot and even visited the soft play! As a special treat they had a special delivery from Tim Hortons. The children all picked their own doughnut and enjoyed eating them together.
This week the children have explored the story of Rosie’s Hat. The children created a story map and used colour semantics to describe what was happening in the pictures. In phonics the children have been learning the new sound of ‘u’. In maths some of the children have been completing number bond activities to 10, 2d shapes and ABC patterns. As part of history the children planned activities for an afternoon using time, such as ‘first’, ‘then’ and ‘next’. Then on the next day they looked back at what activities they had planned on the afternoon and used the vocabulary of ‘yesterday’. As part of science the children have been identifying eyes and noses and there functions.
