Mindfulness Club

22nd September 2023A Malone

Today in our first mindfulness club we discussed what it means to be mindful, and talked about the activities we are going to do over the coming weeks.

This week we started with some calming music and yoga, then we created some pictures and patterns. We finished off with some more music and a ‘mindful looking’ task.

Acorns and Hawthorns Mindfulness

12th May 2023A Malone

Each Thursday Acorns and Hawthorns are able to attend ‘Mindfulness’ after school club.

Every week we start with some gentle yoga. Then we choose from a variety of activities – colouring, drawing, reading, playdoh, threading and other relaxing, calming tasks.

We finish off with a mindfulness activity on the whiteboard. One of our favourites is ‘Bubble Bounce’, where we track coloured bubbles on the screen whilst listening carefully to the spoken instructions.

These activities really calm our minds and help us to feel relaxed.

World Mental Health Day 2023

9th February 2023I Broomes

During World Mental Health Health Day, we read the story called ‘The Invisible String’. We discussed how we are connected to people by an imperceptible yet unbreakable string of love. We all drew a picture of ourselves and around this we drew people who are important to us.

Money

3rd February 2023Mrs Spencer

This week we have been super money mathematicians. We have been working hard to recognise coins and the value of them, building on their prior learning from Year 1. This children have explored money through making amounts using the same coins and mixed coins.

Acorns and Hawthorns Reading Club

31st January 2023A Malone

Every Thursday. Acorns and Hawthorns have their weekly reading club. This is run by Mrs Malone, Miss Henderson and Jo-Anne.

In the first session, everyone chose a favourite book which we put into our special reading club basket. Every week we focus on a different book, so everyone has a turn to share why their book is special.

Last week we looked at ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We found some mysterious magic beans, read the story, and then did some reading, writing and creative jobs linked to the story. We had so much fun!
