As part of our instructional writing in English, Cherries made pancakes this week on Shrove Tuesday.
We used our maths skills to measure the ingredients, then we developed our cookery DT skills to whisk the ingredients and cook the mixture in the pan. Finally, we ate the pancakes with sugar sprinkled or jam spread on top. We even washed the dishes!

As part of our Geography topic “Rocks, Relics and Rumbles” Cherries have been investigating soil by carrying out fieldwork in our school gardens.
We know there are 3 types of soil: sandy, silty and clay.
We collected soil samples around school, and in class we performed tests (rolling, squeezing and observing) to establish what type of soil we had found. We decided they were silty and clay soils.

This week, as part of our Design Technology work, Cherries made pizzas. After designing them, we used real pizza dough topped with ham, cheese and a variety of vegetables including: red onions, red/green/yellow peppers, mushrooms and sweetcorn.
They were delicious!
In maths this week, Cherries have been measuring using centimetres. We explored around the classroom to use our rulers, measuring carefully. We talked about things which were longer, taller and shorter – comparing things. Afterwards, we solved some length problems.
This week, as part of our DT topic “Cook Well Eat Well” we made ratatouille. Willows and Cherries love working with each other!
The children continued to develop their safe cutting and cooking skills. They followed a recipe and then wrote their own ordered steps.
When it was cooked, the children tasted the ratatouille and thought it was delicious – even Mr Mills was impressed!

As part of our DT topic “Cook Well, Eat Well” we explored the many different ways potatoes can be cooked. We went into our life skills flat with our friends in Willows to boil some potatoes and roast some to turn them into chips. We practiced our peeling, chopping and cutting skills – being careful with the sharp knives. We were also extremely careful with the hot pan and oven.

We have had a great day in Cherries for Children in Need.
The children took part in the “Break the Rules Day” by wearing jumpers backwards, bringing sweets for snack, wearing Pudsey ears and many other things.
This afternoon, we played in the soft play for Golden Time because we’ve had such a hardworking week.
