Performing Play Scripts

30th January 2024Mrs Storey

Sycamores have been learning all about the conventions of play scripts.  To support their understanding, they worked in groups to perform a play script using the different stage directions and character names.  The children knew the parts they needed to read and used fantastic expression and actions when following the stage directions.

Earth and Space Exploration at the Great North Museum

12th January 2024Mrs Storey

Sycamores enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Great North Museum with Chestnuts to consolidate our Science learning from last half term. At the museum, we visited the planetarium, used the Ancient Greek activity packs as a pre-teaching task for Summer term, explored the different galleries and took part in a workshop all about the Moon. The children really impressed us with what they had remembered from their Earth and Space Science topic and could explain why we have night and day.  Sycamores were absolutely amazing and were fantastic ambassadors for our school. We were extremely proud of them all.

15th December 2023G Mills

This week, as part of our Design Technology work, Cherries made pizzas. After designing them, we used real pizza dough topped with ham, cheese and a variety of vegetables including: red onions, red/green/yellow peppers, mushrooms and sweetcorn.
They were delicious!

Cherries Cook Potatoes

26th November 2023G Mills

As part of our DT topic “Cook Well, Eat Well” we explored the many different ways potatoes can be cooked. We went into our life skills flat with our friends in Willows to boil some potatoes and roast some to turn them into chips. We practiced our peeling, chopping and cutting skills – being careful with the sharp knives.  We were also extremely careful with the hot pan and oven.

Children in Need in Cherries

23rd November 2023G Mills

We have had a great day in Cherries for Children in Need.
The children took part in the “Break the Rules Day” by wearing jumpers backwards, bringing sweets for snack, wearing Pudsey ears and many other things.
This afternoon, we played in the soft play for Golden Time because we’ve had such a hardworking week.

“Break the Rules Day” for Children in Need

23rd November 2023G Mills

On Friday 18th November, School Council arranged “Break the Rules Day” to raise money for Children in Need.

School Council established a list of rules which could be broken, designed a poster to be displayed around school and promoted the day across social media.

The whole school had lots of fun breaking the rules and we raised nearly £250, which was donated to Children in Need.

Here are some photographs showing the excitement around school…

Anti-Bullying Week

23rd November 2023G Mills

From 13th – 17th November, as part of our ongoing PSHE work, we recognised “Anti-Bullying Week”.
All classes across school have completed work around the theme of “Make a Noise” to encourage children to speak up if they feel they are being bullied or know someone else who is.
Many classes looked at the definition of bullying and talked in detail about how to be a good friend.

Here is a selection of photos showing work from the week…
