Willows have been busy over the last week preparing for our Christmas fair and taking part in lots of Christmas activities.
This week in science the children explored different types of magnets.
They were able to identify and name the different magnets as well as use them to explore how the two poles of a magnet will either attract or repel.
Looking smart for Christmas Jumper Day!
The children in Willows have been making their Christmas cards and 2023 calendars.
They used different collage techniques to create their colourful designs.
Don’t they look wonderful!
This week, in science, Willows were exploring the power of friction.
They conducted their own investigation to see which materials had the most and least friction.
This week Willows and Cherries classes came together as part of their history topic- Through the Ages.
The children used their knowledge of tri-spiral art created by the Celts to produce their own artwork in the same style.
Take a look at them at work!
As part of their art curriculum, Willows were challenged to make a Bell Beaker pot using clay. They have learnt about the Beaker folk who came over from Europe, at the start of the Bronze Age, and brought with them pots that look like upside down bells!
The children used their knowledge of this piece of history and their artistic flair to create beautifully detailed bell beaker pots. Once they have fully dried the children will paint them.
Have a look at their designs so far…
Willows had a great day on Friday having some fun doing lots of Children in Need activities.
Look at how great they all look in their spots and Pudsey t-shirts!
On Monday Cherries and Willows joined together for some Halloween fun. We played some Halloween games, including corners, musical statues and musical bumps. The children showed excellent listening skills and great teamwork cheering and congratulating their friends.
We then completed some mindfulness colouring and pumpkin designing. There was some amazing designs including multicoloured pumpkins and pumpkins with eyelashes!
We then completed a treat hunt outside where the children showed excellent teamwork helping each other find the treats.
The children have had an absolutely fantastic start to year 3!
Their topic for the autumn term is ‘Through the Ages’, this means that, so far, they have been learning all about the Stone Age. They have had so much fun with Cherries class making stone age tools and creating cave drawings.
In keeping with The Stone Age, the children have been reading ‘Stig of the Dump’ and have really enjoyed getting to know the unusual character of Stig.
They have used this book to write a character description about Stig, write a newspaper report and make their own haiku poems. The children then performed their haikus to the class. Very brave!
Science has been all about nutrition, bones and muscles. The children have engaged so well with their learning surrounding this topic and have enjoyed finding out about: the nutritional value of the foods we eat, the different skeleton types, animal skeletons and how muscles work.
In art the children have focused on colour mixing using waterolour paints. They have studied different artists’ paintings and explored the use of colour in them before going on to mix colours to create their own art pieces.
