Winter Warmer Session

16th December 2022A Barnes

The children in Rowans and Acorns class had such fun this morning at the winter warmer session with Sandra from Tides of Change. Everyone was super sensible and followed instructions to toast marshmallows on the fire to make s’mores, they were yummy.

Well done Rowans and Acorns!!

Children in Need

28th November 2022G Mills

On Friday 18th November, the whole school “showed our spots” to raise money for Children in Need.

Everyone wore spotty clothes, including face paints and Pudsey ears.

We held a cake sale, in place of our usual healthy tuck shop, and raised over £80.

Thank you to everyone for your effort and kind contributions.

This Week in Rowans! 14.11.22 – 18.11.22

21st November 2022A Barnes

This week in Rowans class we have been learning our new sound +m. We have practiced spelling words from the sounds that we have learnt. We have worked hard with forming letters.

As it was anti-bullying week the children have been thinking about being a kind friend. As part of the week the children wore odd socks and created their own socks on purple mash. They have also been thinking about who they can talk to if they need help.

As part of moving machines the children have investigated how far vehicles will travel down a ramp. We made predictions and marked how far the vehicles travelled. As part of R.E we have moulded Diya lamps using clay. We have produced excellent pieces of work!

Star of the Week: DO’N for always being a kind and helpful friend.  Well Done!

Attendance: 100%

This Week in Rowans 7.11.22 – 12.11.22

21st November 2022A Barnes

In Phonics this week we have each learnt the new sound +n. We have then segmented and blended words using sounds that we have already learnt. In maths we have practiced counting, subsidising to three and have explored who has more or less.

This week we spent time decorating poppies using paint sticks. We then placed our poppies in the poppy field. We listened to the animated story of Lest We Forget. Everyone has tried really hard and produced some amazing work.

Star of the Week: NA who has followed routines and instructions. Well done!

Attendance: 100%

Autumn 1 in Willows

21st October 2022A Hearn

The children have had an absolutely fantastic start to year 3!

Their topic for the autumn term is ‘Through the Ages’, this means that, so far, they have been learning all about the Stone Age. They have had so much fun with Cherries class making stone age tools and creating cave drawings.

In keeping with The Stone Age, the children have been reading ‘Stig of the Dump’ and have really enjoyed getting to know the unusual character of Stig.

They have used this book to write a character description about Stig, write a newspaper report and make their own haiku poems. The children then performed their haikus to the class. Very brave!

Science has been all about nutrition, bones and muscles. The children have engaged so well with their learning surrounding this topic and have enjoyed finding out about: the nutritional value of the foods we eat, the different skeleton types, animal skeletons and how muscles work.

In art the children have focused on colour mixing using waterolour paints. They have studied different artists’ paintings and explored the use of colour in them before going on to mix colours to create their own art pieces.
