In this half term the children have explored at the beach project. The children have learnt about the animals that live in the sea and they have find out about seas and oceans. The children have learnt about animals that live in rock pools and on the seashore. The children have explored the importance of looking after the environment to keep living things safe.

The children have explored stories that focus on the beach, animals that live in the sea and sea voyages. The stories that we have read include; Lucy and Tom at the Seaside, Who’s Hiding at the Seaside, Tiddler, Commotion in the Ocean, Somebody Swallowed Stanley and Pirates Love Underpants. In phonics the children have continued to learn Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds. The children have been working very hard with their handwriting practice.
In maths the children have been playing lots of mathematical games which include counting, scoring and turn taking. The children have also completed lots of addition and subtraction questions. They have also used part part whole models to understand number bonds to five.
The children have had lots of fun exploring in the sand and water pits. The children have had lots of fun moulding the sand to make their own sandcastles. The children loved exploring the rock pools and identifying animals that live there. The children also learnt about looking after the environment and were able to sort whether objects were supposed to be in the sea or not. The children had an amazing time making boats out of junk modelling and then tested their boats to see if they would sink or float.
This half term we have completed our ‘Britain at War’ topic by focusing on World War 2. We have looked at the nations involved in Geography and in our History lessons we have focused on weaponry, the Battle of Britain and learnt about Anne Frank. We also enjoyed playing a WW2 board game altogether and we designed our own WW2 aircraft copying the styles of ones that existed in the past and had a competition to see who’s travelled the furthest!

To complete our topic we had a brilliant visit to Victoria Tunnel, an old air raid shelter in Newcastle, we experienced the sound of the siren and the darkness of the blackout. We also had a visit to the war exhibition in the Discovery museum and experienced the Red Arrows simulator where we got to feel what it was like to zoom in the sky and do loop de loops!

We have focused a lot on transition this half term and thought about our futures in PSHE lessons. We made our own stress balls to help us keep calm if we ever feel anxious about transition. We even had some visitors in class.. our own tadpoles that we watched turn into froglets, once they turned into froglets we gave each one a name…

We have also had some fun in the sun, enjoying water fights, picnics in the fields and we enjoyed an ice cream from the ice cream van as a year 6 treat. In our last week we spent some time reflecting on our memories and enjoying time together playing games and even making our own pizzas!

As an end of year treat for our amazing year 6’s we had a trip out. We started with a little visit to the park where everyone showed off their monkey bar skills…
We then split into teams and battled each other in Laser Quaser, It was game on! We also enjoyed some time in the arcades…

Then we finished off our day with our lunch at the beach and some time playing in the sand…

A great day was had by all!

Blueberries have been looking at Roman engineering over the past few weeks – we have been amazed by their ability to build bath houses, under-floor heating and toilets with running water! We spent one afternoon investigating aqueducts, looking at examples and using plastic pipes to build an outdoor aqueduct. Then we used what we had learned to design and build our own aqueduct out of a choice of materials. Some of us even managed to build one that would carry water!
Whatever your plans this summer, we’ve got some legendary activities to help keep your child busy. Together, you can create, share, discover – and learn more about helping them become a safer, more confident online explorer.
Google would love to see the Internaut drawings – especially out and about this summer. You can share a snap of their awesome Internaut art on holiday, in the park or wherever you are having summer fun. Use the hashtags #SummerLegends and #BeInternetLegends

During the Spring term Cherries learned about the beach and coastlines, we read seaside stories and learned about seaside animals.
We went on a visit to South Shields beach and the North Marine Park to see if we could see some of the animals and objects we had read about. We had lots of fun using all of the play park equipment, enjoyed our packed lunches sitting on the grass then went to the beach to dig in the sand, bury objects and collect shells.
