This half term we have completed our ‘Britain at War’ topic by focusing on World War 2. We have looked at the nations involved in Geography and in our History lessons we have focused on weaponry, the Battle of Britain and learnt about Anne Frank. We also enjoyed playing a WW2 board game altogether and we designed our own WW2 aircraft copying the styles of ones that existed in the past and had a competition to see who’s travelled the furthest!

To complete our topic we had a brilliant visit to Victoria Tunnel, an old air raid shelter in Newcastle, we experienced the sound of the siren and the darkness of the blackout. We also had a visit to the war exhibition in the Discovery museum and experienced the Red Arrows simulator where we got to feel what it was like to zoom in the sky and do loop de loops!

We have focused a lot on transition this half term and thought about our futures in PSHE lessons. We made our own stress balls to help us keep calm if we ever feel anxious about transition. We even had some visitors in class.. our own tadpoles that we watched turn into froglets, once they turned into froglets we gave each one a name…

We have also had some fun in the sun, enjoying water fights, picnics in the fields and we enjoyed an ice cream from the ice cream van as a year 6 treat. In our last week we spent some time reflecting on our memories and enjoying time together playing games and even making our own pizzas!
