Autumn Term 1 in Willows

22nd October 2021A Tod

Our first 7 weeks as Willows has flown by. Although, time flies when you’re having fun!!

Our weeks have been filled with focusing on our English text, ‘The Egyptian Cinderella’, learning all about Ancient Egypt in history and skeletons, muscles and food groups in science.

The children have been kept busy in English and have produced some fantastic pieces of writing. They have put to use their diary and story writing skills as well as writing some fantastic balanced arguments and character descriptions.

In science, we have been learning all about how to keep our bodies healthy, the skeleton and how our muscles work. The children worked together in groups to make their own skeleton and label the bones.

To link with our history topic of Ancient Egypt, the children used coloured art straws to construct their own 3D pyramids. It was certainly not an easy task and got very fiddly! The children worked so well independently.

As a class we held a vote in order to elect our class School Councillor. The children who wanted to be chosen had to write a speech including the reasons why they wanted to be councillor and the things they would do if they were elected.

Here is our class councillor:

We have been lucky enough to have Lenny, our school dog, come over to Willows for maths lessons up to 3 times a week! He is a very good boy and the children are great with him.

How cute is he?

Marvellous Me – Autumn 1

22nd October 2021A Barnes

Our new Lemons class have had a fabulous and fun filled time settling into school this half term. In phonics we have worked incredibly hard at learning lots of new sounds. In maths we have explored numbers, added two groups together and identified 2d and 3d shapes. We have also explored our senses, places of interest in the local area and created a family tree. As well as lots of opportunities for Child Initiated Learning.

What a brilliant half term we have had in Apples class! The children have settled beautifully into the new school year and have begun to form some lovely friendships with each other. They have begun to show more independence when completing their learning tasks and have produced some brilliant work.  Everyone has worked hard this half term and has earned a good rest over the holiday.

Science in Sycamores

22nd October 2021G Mills

In science this term, Sycamores have been learning about the reproduction of plants and animals.

We went out into the school grounds to take plant clippings. We then placed them in water and we’re hoping they will sprout roots, before we can plant them in compost and grow identical clones of the original plant.

The USA and the Americas

22nd October 2021A Hearn
This term in Oaks we have enjoyed learning about The USA and the Americas. We have used atlas’, maps, the internet and texts to find out specific information and compared American cities with ones in the UK. Some of the terminology we have been using this term as been hemisphere, latitude and longitude, biomes. We look forward to further developing these skills in the future. As part of our science topic ‘Living things and their habitat’ we grew mould, investigated the conditions which produced more fungi, learned about different microorganisms, classified living things and even learned some fascinating facts:
Did you you there is more bacteria in one teaspoon of soil than there are people on our planet?
Eventually we produced our own knowledge organiser to demonstrate what we have learned and the scientific vocabulary associated with this area.
In our English lessons we have been reading the book Wonder and exploring complex themes such as prejudice, friendships, kindness and acceptance. We have enjoyed reading this book and looking at the different perspectives of the complex characters, as parts are written in several first person accounts.
This term we have also enjoyed integrating with Plums as often as possible. I have been particularly impressed with the support and cooperation in PE lessons and how we have all been developing our drawing skills in art using perspectives and vanishing points.

Get in the Zone!

22nd October 2021l Mitchinson

Blueberries are getting very good at using the Zones of Regulation to describe and identify feelings. We have a class Toolkit which gives us strategies when we need to get back into the Green Zone. We use a lot of visual supports which help us manage our emotions at different times.

Cherries Autumn 1

20th October 2021H Warburton

This half term in Cherries our topic has been Teeth, Claws and Dinosaurs. We have been reading the series Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs and retold the story, described the characters and identified the characters feelings and why they feel that way.

In cookery and DT we have made cookies with dinosaur foot prints in, used a dinosaur foot print cutter in cookies and made our own salt dough that we printed a dinosaur into.

In science we have described dinosaur skeletons and sorted them into different categories as well as sorting dinosaurs into different categories.

In ICT we have used the iPads to take photos, videos and even used augmented reality to put a stegosaurus in our school!
