Art Attack in Plums

20th October 2021L Calder

This half term our topic has been ‘Art Attack’. We have looked at the work of lots of different artists and have enjoyed reading Mr Men and Little Miss stories, we even created our own Mr Men characters.

In maths we have been learning about measuring capacity- we especially enjoyed making our own potions and ‘jazzy juices’…

In science we started by experimenting by adding water to different sweets making predictions and observation. Then we moved onto light and dark including looking at light reflection.

Here are some photographs of our brilliant art work this half term…

We finished our topic with a visit to the Baltic and the Laing Art Gallery to see some famous exhibitions and pieces of art work first hand!

Beach School

20th October 2021L Calder

Plums and Blueberries enjoyed a day at Tides of Change beach school together. We had a brilliant day and took part in lots of fun activities including rockpooling, making a shelter, building sandcastles, target throwing using rocks, digging, learning how to use a flint to make a campfire and eating marshmallows (some of us even put them inside a chocolate biscuit to make a smore!). In the rock pools we found crabs, shrimps and a lobster too!

Medieval Magic in Oranges!

18th October 2021S Wilkinson

This half term in Oranges our topic has been Medieval Magic. We have been learning all about knights, dragons, witches and wizards.

In Literacy we have read stories such as George’s Dragon, Knights and Dragons Unite, A Magical Muddle, Room on the Broom and In the Castle. The children have used colourful semantics to create phrases based on the stories, they have also written their own sentences based on their favourite parts.

In Maths the children have practised their counting skills. They have demonstrated how to add and subtract using concrete resources such as cubes, identified which objects are heavy and light and have used ordinal numbers.

In Art the children have used different materials to collage and create art work such as their own shape castle and their own dragon. In DT the children have worked very hard following recipes to make different foods including cornflake cakes, vanilla and chocolate fairy cakes as well as shortbread.

In Science we have learned all about the four seasons and have been able to identify what happens within each season.

A fantastic half term of learning for our amazing Oranges!

Meet Ollee: A digital friend for 8-11 year olds

18th October 2021A Hearn

Ollee is a digital friend for children aged 8-11 – created by Parent Zone and funded by BBC Children in Need’s A Million & Me initiative.

It helps them explore feelings around school, family, friends and the world – and share advice with a parent or trusted adult.

Video: Meet Ollee

Children can tell Ollee how they’re feeling and it will give them ideas about what to do. If they’re not sure, Ollee will help them figure it out.

Together, parents and children can share Ollee’s advice and talk about feelings together through connected accounts.

Try it out now in a web browser or download the app to your device.
