This week in Cookery Club, our new cohort of children made delicious brownies. They worked well in two groups to follow the recipe, paying close attention to the measurements needed for each of the ingredients and supporting each other to use the different equipment they needed to use.

Remembrance Day

The children have made some beautiful poppies this week to create our own Poppy Field in the school yard as part of the Remembrance Day commemorations. We will also be taking part in the 2 minute silence at 11am this morning. #LestWeForget

Autumn Term 1 in Chestnuts

Chestnuts have settled extremely well into Year 5 life and have taken it all in their stride.  We have been using Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone as our class text and have linked our English and Art through it.  In English we have been writing diaries as we journey to Hogwarts for the first time, have created instructions for making a potion and have written an adventure story for rescuing a stolen object from the Forbidden Forest!  In Art, we have focused on adding texture and thinking about scale and proportion when sketching.  We hope you like our art from the photograph!  In History, we have found out about history in our local area, the impact of the Industrial Revolution on the North East and have studied specific jobs such as Mining.  Excellent work Chestnuts!

Autumn Term 1 in Hawthorns

What a fabulous time we have had in Hawthorns this half term. The children have all settled back in to learning without bubbles with ease. Our topic has been all about The Great Fire of London and we have all thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the ways in which London has changed, how we live now is different and similar to how people lived in 1666 and  how the Great Fire started and spread across London. The children have been working so hard to develop their place value knowledge in maths and the writing that they have been producing during English has been fantastic!
