Halloween Fun in Maples

10th November 2022A Hearn

The children in Maples had lots of fun for Halloween. They began the morning by completing some phonics and Halloween maths  work including  ordering numbers, repeating patterns and finding one more and one less. On the afternoon, the children decorated some spooky Halloween Monster Face biscuits. Using their knowledge of Zones of Regulations, they could identify how different pumpkins were feeling based on their facial expressions and say which zone they were in. For example, the pumpkin is sad, he is in the blue zone. We finished the day by enjoying the story, Room on the Broom.

A spooktacular day!

Autumn 1 in Willows

21st October 2022A Hearn

The children have had an absolutely fantastic start to year 3!

Their topic for the autumn term is ‘Through the Ages’, this means that, so far, they have been learning all about the Stone Age. They have had so much fun with Cherries class making stone age tools and creating cave drawings.

In keeping with The Stone Age, the children have been reading ‘Stig of the Dump’ and have really enjoyed getting to know the unusual character of Stig.

They have used this book to write a character description about Stig, write a newspaper report and make their own haiku poems. The children then performed their haikus to the class. Very brave!

Science has been all about nutrition, bones and muscles. The children have engaged so well with their learning surrounding this topic and have enjoyed finding out about: the nutritional value of the foods we eat, the different skeleton types, animal skeletons and how muscles work.

In art the children have focused on colour mixing using waterolour paints. They have studied different artists’ paintings and explored the use of colour in them before going on to mix colours to create their own art pieces.

This Week in Hollies

17th October 2022A Hearn

09.10.22-14.10.22

We have had a busy week in Hollies! We have continued to learn new sounds in phonics and have all worked really hard during maths. In History we looked at birthdays and what it means when we have our birthday. We have also been enjoying a variety of fruit during our snack times.

In Science this week Hollies conducted an experiment to see which objects float and which sink. We all enjoyed putting the objects into the water and waiting to see what happened.

In DT this week we visited Pines who helped us make houses as part of our Shelters and Shades topic. We also enjoyed playing with their toys.

Star of the Week: HB for showing enjoyment when learning new skills and cheering others on in different situations.

Player of the Session: SJ for following instructions and joining in with the whole lesson. IL for listening to instructions consistently.

Attendance: 99%

14th October 2022A Hearn

Reading club is every Thursday after school in Acorns classroom, with Mrs Malone, Miss Henderson and Jo-Anne. We read books together, listen to stories, explore characters, play games and even do a little bit of singing and drama! It’s lots of fun and we get the chance to see our friends in other classes too.

Fun in Acorns!

13th October 2022A Hearn

Today we invited parents and carers into school to join in with a phonics session.

We learnt the sound, did the action and sang the song, and then we read with our grown-ups. Everyone had fun as well as learning new things!

Making Stone Age Tools

10th October 2022A Hearn

Cherries and Willows topic this half term is Through the Ages. We have been learning all about the Stone Age, including all about their tools and weapons. We went foraging on the school field for some twigs, stones and materials then came back to class to make our tools and weapons. The children worked very hard and independently and made some amazing fishing rods, hammers and axes to name a few!
