In Maples this Week…

10th October 2022A Hearn

03.10.22- 07.10.22

We have had another great week in Maples. The children have continued to recognise their phase 2, 3 and 5 sounds. We are really impressed with their sound recognition, blending and writing of words. In Maths the children have worked hard on their individual targets, including ordinal numbers, recognition and place value of numbers as well as telling the time to the hour. In Science, we identified what humans need to survive and enjoyed PE where the children followed instructions to move different parts of their bodies. In Art we used clay blocks to colour mix primary colours.

Awards:
Star of the Week: BeSh for always smiling when completing his 1-1 activities and making his friends smile and always be happy.
Player of the Session: JeLa for following instructions really well during PE.

This week reception learned all about the letters i, n, m and d. We can now blend our sounds to read lots of new words! We’re getting on well with our new reading books too! We have also explored the numbers 3 and 4, made our own playdoh and worked hard at following instructions and working together.

Year 1 have been writing sentences using adjectives, exploring number bonds using part whole models, and finding out about parts of the body in science.

Primary Science Quality Mark

10th October 2022A Hearn

We are delighted to announce that our school has been awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark. We have demonstrated a significant commitment to science teaching and learning. The profile and quality of science in each awarded school is very high. Our children are engaging with great science both in and outside the classroom, developing positive attitudes towards science as well as secure scientific understanding and skills. We are really proud of our science subject leaders Mrs Spencer and Miss Warburton for the work they have put into achieving this award. We are also really proud of our colleagues and children for being so responsive to the new curriculum that has been put in place. Our reviewer stated:

“Your school has made great progress in developing science at Fellgate throughout this PSQM process. It is good to recognise the steps you have taken and the positive impact they are having on science in school and the plans you have in place to develop this further. The evidence you have provided shows the strength of the curriculum you have put in place and the engagement of the children who are clearly enjoying their learning in science. The outdoor learning opportunities you currently provide are a great way to enhance the curriculum and bring the subject to life with many hands-on experiences and the plans you have in place to develop this further will only enrich this further.”

This Week in Maples

4th October 2022A Hearn

26.09.22-30.09.22

This week in Maples we have been working very hard on our phase 2, 3 and 5 sounds. The children have been recognising their sounds, reading words with these sounds in them and writing words. In Maths the children have been working on their own individualised targets and have all impressed the staff with how hard they have been working. We have also identified herbivores and carnivores in Science, identified groups of significant people in history and have been following instructions in PE.

As a special treat the children enjoyed navigating around our amazing climbing frame. Although some of our children were a little nervous, they all had a go. What superstars we have!

Awards:
Star of the Week: George for using his PECS book to communicate his needs and wants.
Karate Reader: Caleb received his white band for 15 reads.
Attendance: 100%. Well done everyone!
Player of the Session: Frankie for following instructions in PE. Well done!
