In Blossoms, this term, we have been exploring forces in science. In this lesson, we designed and created our own pulley systems and then tested their lifting capabilities using marbles.
This week in Rowans class we have been learning our new sound +i, In maths we have practiced counting, identifying numerals, subsidising and learning the names of 3D shapes.
In RE we have listened the story of The Best Diwali Ever. We learnt all about Bonfire Night as we listened to the eBook of ‘Sparks in the Sky’ and created our firework and bonfire displays.

We have had a great first week back in Maples. The children have enjoyed some Halloween and Bonfire Night activities. We continued learning new sounds in phonics including ck, wh, ey, ng and ee. In Maths the children have been working hard on their own individual targets.
During PHSE the children have been using facial expressions to see how a person is feeling and linking it back to Zones of Regulation. “He is happy, he is in the green zone.”
During PE the children travelled to different coloured corners and could only travel across the hall floor by moving from one hoop to another.
On Friday, we enjoyed integration with our friends from Hawthorns and created firework pictures using Purple Mash and then made chocolate sparklers using breadsticks, chocolate and sprinkles. A lovely week!
Sycamores have been hard at work, learning about life on Caribbean plantations. They have produced some fantastic work which explains what life was like for enslaved African people. They thought carefully about what it would be like to be sold at auction, what the work would be like, the treatment they would have received and even discussed rebellions!

Everyone has settled so well into Pines class. We have explored our environment and the different stations for our choosing time (and the class fish!), we made a pine cone to display on our classroom door and enjoyed being back doing PE with coach Adam.
As part of our topic- Childhood, we explored some Victorian toys, we especially enjoyed the swing toy! As part of our PSHE we played a board game which linked to our first story- ‘Jake’s First Day’ to develop our turn taking skills.
On Monday we celebrated Halloween. In Maths we counted pumpkins and made patterns using Halloween pictures. We also got to play/experiment with monster hands. We found brains and worms inside them. For snack we made ghost bananas and decorated Halloween biscuits.
On Monday Cherries and Willows joined together for some Halloween fun. We played some Halloween games, including corners, musical statues and musical bumps. The children showed excellent listening skills and great teamwork cheering and congratulating their friends.
We then completed some mindfulness colouring and pumpkin designing. There was some amazing designs including multicoloured pumpkins and pumpkins with eyelashes!
We then completed a treat hunt outside where the children showed excellent teamwork helping each other find the treats.
We have had a brilliant first week back after the half term in Pines, we all enjoyed sharing our fantastic holiday news on Monday! We have read two stories this week a ‘Magical Muddle’ and ‘Sparks in the Sky’. We started the week with some spooky maths combining our fine motor skills to put pegs on the spider to match the number for it’s legs. We made a spooky spell, carved a pumpkin and made some Halloween cakes too! We even clapped our for our friends in a game of bobbing apples.
Continuing our DT topic ‘shelters’ we made a shelter for our favourite toy to keep them safe from the fireworks. We also mixed yellow and red to make orange handprints for our bonfire picture and ended the week making a bonfire cake which even had a sparkler!
This week we also had a visitor come into school to teach us how to cross roads safely, we had to press the button and wait for the green man. We all did a great job! We even got to try on the lollipop person’s uniform!

The children have completed lots of amazing phonics and maths jobs this week. To celebrate bonfire night we did firework maths jobs by counting the fireworks or adding them together. This week we have completed some amazing phonics work and some children have been writing the words in their new English books!
In science we completed an experiment and looked to see what happened when we made a potion. The children were fascinated when it started to fizz and foam and all found that it was smelly!
As a special treat we got to visit the sensory room which they all loved!

First week back in Acorns and we’ve got off to a flying start! We’ve learned new letter sounds in phonics, explored ‘Room on the Broom’ by Julia Donaldson in English, found out about different ways to represent numbers in maths, and have also done some Halloween activities. We’re looking forward to starting our new topic – Marvellous Machines – and finding out about all sorts of technology.
