A Great First Week Back

10th November 2022A Hearn

We have had a great first week back in Maples. The children have enjoyed some Halloween and Bonfire Night activities. We continued learning new sounds in phonics including ck, wh, ey, ng and ee. In Maths the children have been working hard on their own individual targets.

During PHSE the children have been using facial expressions to see how a person is feeling and linking it back to Zones of Regulation. “He is happy, he is in the green zone.”

During PE the children travelled to different coloured corners and could only travel across the hall floor by moving from one hoop to another.

On Friday, we enjoyed integration with our friends from Hawthorns and created firework pictures using Purple Mash and then made chocolate sparklers using breadsticks, chocolate and sprinkles. A lovely week!

10th November 2022A Hearn

Sycamores have been hard at work, learning about life on Caribbean plantations. They have produced some fantastic work which explains what life was like for enslaved African people. They thought carefully about what it would be like to be sold at auction, what the work would be like, the treatment they would have received and even discussed rebellions!

We made a spooky spell, carved a pumpkin and made some Halloween cakes too! We even clapped our for our friends in a game of bobbing apples.

Continuing our DT topic ‘shelters’ we made a shelter for our favourite toy to keep them safe from the fireworks. We also mixed yellow and red to make orange handprints for our bonfire picture and ended the week making a bonfire cake which even had a sparkler!

This week we also had a visitor come into school to teach us how to cross roads safely, we had to press the button and wait for the green man. We all did a great job! We even got to try on the lollipop person’s uniform!
