Subject Lead: Mrs L. Mitchinson

On this page, you can find information about SMSC at Fellgate.

Intent:

At Fellgate Primary School we recognise that the personal development of pupils, spiritually, morally, socially and culturally plays a significant part in their ability to learn and achieve.

We aim to create caring, confident and curious children who are successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.

Implementation:

We promote SMSC across the curriculum, understanding that it has a positive impact on pupils’ personal development, including their behaviour and attitudes. We provide as broad a curriculum as possible in order to promote SMSC and view it as an important consideration when planning learning for our pupils.

We also provide opportunities to develop SMSC through non-academic activities such as school clubs, educational visits, visitors in school, daily mindfulness and regular assemblies.

Impact:

A focus on SMSC development gives our pupils the skills they need to become happy, confident individuals adding a positive contribution to their local and wider community.

Inclusion and Equal Opportunities:

We develop an ethos where everyone feels valued, celebrating individuality and striving for everyone to reach their full potential. We believe that all children can succeed and support a wide range of needs in both main school and the Base. We celebrate cultural diversity and make all learning relevant by linking it to the context of our school and children.

Awards and Quality Marks:

We have achieved the Silver SMSC Quality Mark.

Subject Mantra:

We use subject mantras to develop our children’s understanding of the subjects they are learning. They also help our children make connections and develop their long term memory.

Our SMSC Policy will tell you more about the subject and how it is taught, monitored and assessed across the school.
