The Toby Henderson Trust at the Autism Hub provides support for families with children and young people affected by autism (or suspected autism). They are still supporting families during this lockdown. Here is what they offer:
South Tyneside Council & South Tyneside CCG are pleased to announce a new range of training for parents and carers of children and young people with SEND.
Based on what parents have told us, we have pulled together a training programme covering a range of topics including SEND Law, Makaton, Challenging Behaviour and much more. The training programme will run for the next 12 months with lots of opportunities for parents to choose the training that’s of most interest to them. All courses are free to join.
We are now taking bookings for the first event: a series of training on SEND Law. These sessions will be delivered by Claire Jackson of SENETA (Special Educational Needs Expert Training & Advocacy). Click the link below to find out more about the sessions and book your space.

Over the last few days, Sycamores have had fun in the cold and the snow!
Here are some photos:
Due to a national lockdown, many Sycamores have been working from home (as well as the children in school).
We have been working hard in maths on fractions, measures and developing our arithmetic skills.
In English, we have written newspapers, diaries, explanations and non-chronological reports.
We also started our new topic about the Mayans.
We have recognised Mental Health Week and World e-safety day.

This half term our topic has been Traditional Tales.
We have enjoyed reading The Three Little Pigs, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Little Red Riding Hood in literacy and have used colourful semantics to help retell each story.
We have also been working hard on our numbers, counting and shape knowledge.
We have enjoyed using a range of techniques and materials to create different crafts linked to our topic.
In Science, the children have investigated different materials, finding out which materials float and sink, how much force is needed to move different materials and which can be recycled.
We have also followed lots of recipes to make some delicious food.
We have also enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year. We discovered this year is the year of the Ox. We made traditional red envelopes filled with lucky chocolate coins and fantastic paper lanterns.
A brilliant half term of learning both at school and at home!
Although this half term has been a little different to the rest, Willows have demonstrated their great strengths of resilience and enthusiasm towards their home learning (those in school and at home). Whilst delving deep into the depths of new online technologies the children have covered a range of new topics.
In English, they have studied their new class text The Great Kapok Tree and explored the issue of deforestation. This links directly to their geography topic of The Rainforest, in which they have explored biomes, climate and layers of the rainforest. Next half term they will find out how plants and animals are adapted to living in the rainforest and explore the Amazon Rainforest in greater depth.
In science the children have been looking at living things and their habitats; exploring the different types of vertebrate and invertebrate animals as well as looking at how our local and global environments change over time through the things we, as humans, do to it.
In maths the children have explored the formal written method of column multiplication as well as looking at known division facts. They have also spent time learning how to interpret data using bar charts, pictograms and line graphs. At the end of this half term the children have explored how to read both analogue and 12-hour digital time.
The children have made great use of Purple Mash this half term whilst learning has been online. They have used it to learn about the members of the family in French, produce bar charts as part of their statistics in maths as well as use it for many e-safety related activities.
There is so much to commend the children on this half term; what a super job you are all doing. I thank everyone at home who is making such a brilliant effort with the home learning.
I can’t wait to have everyone back in the classroom again! : )
We have been working hard from school and at home this term. Our topic this term has been ‘Long, Long Ago’ as we have read traditional tales with a twist.
We have used colourful semantics to retell the story of; ‘The True Story of the Three Little Pigs’, ‘The Billy Goats Fluff’ and ‘The Wolf’s Story: Little Red Riding Hood’.
In maths we have completed a variety of learning activities from counting to number bridges to heavy and light.
We have used straw, sticks and printed bricks to create The Three Little Pigs houses.
We have been planting seeds to grow grass for the Three Billy Goats.
We explored what materials would float and what would sink.
We explored what materials are recyclable and sorted into four categories.
We have had lots of fun in PE this term.
