World Maths Day in Chetsnuts

26th March 2023G Mills

On Thursday, Chestnuts celebrated World Maths Day.

In English, we solved measurement questions about George’s Marvellous Medicine related to our work on Roald Dahl.

In maths, we improved our money skills by solving riddles. This helped us to find totals and give change.

During art, we created curves of pursuit patterns.

Some of our excellent work is shown below.

World Book Day in Chestnuts

3rd March 2023G Mills

As part of our World Book Day celebrations, Chestnuts came dressed as their favourite book characters. Don’t we look amazing?

We also chose new books as part of our whole book swap.

During the afternoon, we entered a competition to design a new book token and Blossoms class visited us. We read stories to each other; it was lots of fun!

Exploring Our New Sensory Room

6th February 2023G Mills

Chestnuts visited our new sensory room in the hub today.

It was lots of fun as we played with the lights, games and sounds to explore what we could see, hear and touch.

Some children even used the microphone to sing a song!

This week, Chestnuts began their new art topic about landscapes.

We made a first attempt at drawing a landscape after looking at some very famous pieces of art by Monet, Van Gogh and many others.

A Great Start to 2023!

13th January 2023G Mills

Chestnuts have made a great start to 2023!

This week we have written our new years resolutions, to try to become better versions of ourselves.

The pictures below show our Golden Time. The children have Golden Time when they have worked hard all week. For a short period of time, the children have the opportunity to choose between a range of rewards such as iPads, board games, drawing or watching a film.

Design Technology

16th December 2022G Mills

In DT, Chestnuts have been learning about healthy snacks.

We created our own packaging boxes, using different nets of shapes.

Then, we made and tasted heathy snacks including: hummus and carrot sticks/breadsticks, vegetable crisps, fruit skewers and air-popped popcorn.

Finally, we planned our own healthy snack which we could take to school.

Charlotte’s Web Drama!

Watercolour Art

16th December 2022G Mills

To become better artists, Chestnuts have been painting using watercolours.

We have been using different colour pallets to show different moods and feelings. For example, lots of blues to show sadness and red to show anger.

We even mixed different paints to create our own new colours.

Using the watercolours was not easy, but we tried our very best!
