Chestnuts had great fun wearing our Christmas jumpers!
We also had Christmas dinner that day. It was delicious!
As part of our instructional writing in English, we made chocolate crispy cakes and then decorated them.
We then wrote instructions!
They were delicious!
Chestnuts have great fun in PE every week!
This week, we were playing games in the school hall.
Look at us moving across the floor in different ways.
As part of our explanation writing in English, we created huge posters to explain the water cycle.
This also linked to our science curriculum.
This term we have really enjoyed our French lessons with Madame Smith. We have been learning parts of the body and had lots of fun using the vocabulary by joining in with exercises, songs and dances!

Chestnuts had a lovely time celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee! We researched events of the decade 2010-2020 and made timelines of our findings. We also created some fantastic artwork of the Queen and made beautiful crowns with our friends in Apples to wear at our Jubilee picnic.

Oaks (Y6), Sycamores and Chestnuts (Y5) have been to Thurston (the South Tyneside Outdoor Activity Centre) in The Lakes.
All children (and staff) had an amazing week! They did lots of exciting things including: canoeing, tree climbing, orienteering, exploring a disused mine, walking up mountains, ghyll scrambling and much much more!
Look at these amazing photos…
Chestnuts have settled extremely well into Year 5 life and have taken it all in their stride. We have been using Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone as our class text and have linked our English and Art through it. In English we have been writing diaries as we journey to Hogwarts for the first time, have created instructions for making a potion and have written an adventure story for rescuing a stolen object from the Forbidden Forest! In Art, we have focused on adding texture and thinking about scale and proportion when sketching. We hope you like our art from the photograph! In History, we have found out about history in our local area, the impact of the Industrial Revolution on the North East and have studied specific jobs such as Mining. Excellent work Chestnuts!
On Tuesday 13th July both of our year 4 classes, Chestnuts and Willows, took part in their sports afternoon. Sports coach Adam had prepared lots of fun and exciting events for the children.
The events were: Sprinting, ‘Egg and spoon’, Obstacle race and a rounders match. All of the children gave the events their all and had so much fun taking part. Even the teachers got to join in!
Have a look at them in action…

We have been learning all about Vikings this half term and, as part of DT, we have made our very own Viking longships. We started by designing our longships and creating a specific criteria that we must include (for example a sail and dragon’s head) before exploring ways we could strengthen our designs. We finally got to make our longships and worked as a team – it too lots of problem solving skills! We hope you enjoy our finished longships. We had a fantastic time making them.
