Under the Sea

28th May 2021A Barnes

The topic for this term is Animal Adventures and the theme for the last two weeks has been all about the sea. The class story that we have been reading is a book called Under the Sea by Anna Milbourne. We have explored this book using colourful semantics to create sentences and used pictures from the book to sequence the story. We have also sounded and blended CVC words and sorted into rhyming strings. In maths we have completed lots of  counting activities and we have added 1 to a number. In science we sorted the animals into the three categories of farmyard, minibeasts and sea creatures. We have also labelled the key body parts of a shark. In art our topic is to complete pieces of artwork using the collage method. We have created a turtle using two shades of green, jellyfish with the stain glassed effect and created a fabulous rainbow fish using brightly coloured sequins to complete the amazing Under the Sea display. The children have absolutely loved learning about the sea and all of the sea creatures.

In DT we have practised cutting different fruit and made a banana loaf which we all had a try of.

STEM Challenge in Blueberries!

21st May 2021l Mitchinson

This week we have been reading the story of ‘Rosie Revere, Engineer’ in literacy. Our STEM challenge was to design and build something that Rosie could travel in down a zipwire. We had to make sure that a) Rosie stayed in her ‘vehicle’ all the way and b) that our design had to travel independently down the zipwire. We had great fun testing out our ideas!
