Cherries Spring 2

4th April 2022H Warburton

This half term Cherries have continued with their Coastlines topic. In Literacy we have been reading Katie Morag books, we have retold the story and looked at characters’ feelings and explaining why they were feeling this way.

In Science we have been learning about plants and what they need to survive, we also explored some unusual plants that don’t need certain things to grow. For British Science Week we created some plant posters drawing and labelling what plants need to survive. In Maths we have been identifying coins and notes and began adding varied coins to make different amounts.

For Red Nose Day we created 6 different red noses using different media. We also created some lighthouses in DT by cutting and wrapping red and white stripes of paper, scrunching tissue paper to create the rocks and the sea and adding a tea light for the light. Some children commented they looked like The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch lighthouses and that we should connect them with string to send his packed lunch. Some great learning this half term!

Frozen Kingdoms

15th March 2022L Calder

To start our Frozen Kingdoms topic this half term we each went on a virtual expedition to the Artic Circle and Antarctica using Google Earth!

In science we have enjoyed investigating how blubber keeps polar animals warm with a very chilly experiment! We have also looked at how animals are classified, how they adapt to the cold and how to make classification keys.

In maths we have been focusing on our multiplication and division skills and tried very hard learning to use some formal methods including the ‘bus stop’ method!

For Children’s mental health week we reflected on how we have grown this school year already…

We have thoroughly enjoyed this topic this half term and can’t wait to learn more about it next half term!

The children in Lemons class have had lots of fun during World Book Day. They dressed up as their favourite book characters and looked fantastic. We enjoyed sharing and recreated the story of The Gigantic Turnip using small world characters. We then shared reading books and enjoyed an interactive story. Such a fun day all round.

Spring 1 Round Up!

18th February 2022A Tod

This half term Willows have been as busy and as hardworking as usual. In fact, we’ve been non-stop!

Our topic this term is Rocks, Relics and Rumbles, so we have been learning all things volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis.

The children carried out their own investigation into the properties of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.

To match our explosive topic, we have been reading The Firework Maker’s Daughter in English where we have followed wannabe firework maker, Lila, on her perilous journey to Mount Merapi to meet the Fire Fiend…

In science, the children have been investigating magnets and forces; looking at how different magnets are used, magnetic fields and the different types of forces.

The children have also been busy artists this half term. They have drawn volcanoes, used printing techniques and sculpted 3D ammonites. Don’t they look fantastic!
